MMFF 2016, Mocha Uson

Metro Manila Film Festival 2016 ambassadress Mocha Uson reacts to the call for people to boycott the festival because of her. Mocha took to her Facebook page and said that it is the film industry that will lose a lot in the boycott and not her.

Filipino Film Industry Is The Loser

In her Facebook page, which has over 4 million followers, she said if MMFF would boycott the MMFF she wouldn’t be affected but the MMF would feel the brunt of the effect. She added how the artists, producers, directors and other staff would suffer and not the President.

According to a GMA news report, Mocha said that was merely helping promote the films and the festival, just like the government. She also emphasized that it will be the film industry that will be at the losing end of the boycott.

Mocha’s designation as ambassador for the festival was announced a few days before the start of the festival. She committed to promoting the films that were part of the festival through her social media accounts, primarily her Facebook page.

After the announcement, she immediately posted promotional videos of “Oro,” “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2” and “Die Beatiful.”

#BoycottMMFF: Two Sides of The Coin

After the announcement, the hashtag #boycottMMFF immediately appeared on Twitter. Most of the tweets said that they were boycotting the festival because they did not like Mocha as its spokesperson. Here are some of them:

On the other hand, some agreed with Mocha, saying that boycotting the MMFF will badly hurt the movies and those who worked hard to put them together. Another tweet mentioned that instead of boycotting the festival, they should boycott Mocha.
