From the looks of it, this week’s movie mix sure is going to be thrilling. For starters, you have the action-adventure film “War for the Planet of the Apes” that is sure to awaken ambitious instincts and the drama-comedy, “The Hollars” for some good’ole laugh-out-loud and feel good moments. Of course, one cannot miss this week’s Pinoy Wattpad-inspired horror feature presentation, “Bloody Crayons.”

July 12 Movie Mix Genre: Suspense Meets Human Interest
“War for the Planet of the Apes” is a science fiction film which is the third installment to the “Planet of the Apes” series. It is directed Matt Reeves and written by Mark Bomback. The film picks takes the story two years later after “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” The main character, Caesar, and his apes waged war against humans. Things take a toll for Caesar specially when he loses a lot of his comrades. He then falls into the dark side to once and for all decide on the fate of both man and ape. The epic film is directed by Matt Reeves and written by both Mark Bomback and Reeves. Some of the cast includes Andy Serkis, Steve Zahn and Judy Greer.
“The Hollars” is a story about returning home. When John Hollar hears that his mother, Sally, has a brain tumor, he just had to go back home. He joins his brother, Ron, and his dad, Don, by Sally’s side. The moment he stepped back in into his home, things about his past and his life begin to get complicated. At least John gets the chance to rekindle his family ties and to put some closure on things that were left undone. The film stars John Krasinski, Margo Martindale, Sharlito Copley, Richard Jenkins, Anna Kendrick and Josh Groban.
The Wattpad book, “Bloody Crayons,” by Josh Argonza gets its own film. The horror thriller is made into a film by Star Cinema and is directed by acclaimed Filipino director Topel Lee. It tells the story of a group of students who go on an island getaway for the summer. To spice things up they decide to play the game, Bloody Crayons. Little did they know that this innocence led to a masked killer taking them down one by one. The mystery of who the killer is and why should be answered in order for them to survive. The film stars Janella Salvador, Elmo Magalona, Sofia Andres, Diego Loyzaga, Jane Oineza, Maris Racal, Yves Flores, Empoy Marquez and Ronnie Alonte.
