Popcorn Movie Mix May 3: The Circle, Gifted, Lucky At First Sight, And Eat Local

The Popcorn Movie Mix for this first week of May is as enticing as a juicy quarter pounder with fries on a tiring day. How star-studded these box office hits are makes it impossible to choose just one film to binge on over the weekend. For all the right reasons, it is best to hit the cinemas and watch “The Circle,” “Gifted,” “Luck at First Sight,” “Eat Local.”

Upfront, this week’s movie list are topnotch with actors Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, John Boyega, Chris Evans, Mckenna Grace, Lindsay Duncan, Octavia Spencer, Jericho Rosales, Bela Padilla, Charlie Cox, Freema Agyeman, and Tony Curran.

The May 3 Movie Mix Combines Privacy, Child Prodigy, Lucky Love, and Getting Bloody Hungry

Emma Watson lands her dream job in social media and tech empire, The Circle. What begins as a dream come true turns into a nightmare when Mae (Emma) finds out that she is part of an experiment that disregards privacy, freedom, and ethics. The reality of the existence of the thin line between knowing enough and knowing everything is the film’s main sentiment and how this comes to play with the real lives of people. The film is directed by James Ponsoldt and also stars Tom Hanks and John Boyega.

Single dad Chris Evans raises child prodigy, Mckenna Grace. As an uncle, Frank Adler (Chris) tries his best to raise his niece Mary (Mckenna). Her brilliance in mathematics made raves causing Frank’s mother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan), to want Mary all to herself. The mother and son now find themselves in a complicated custody battle. It is a good thing that Frank and Mary have certain people who offer some solace in a tight situation. One of them is Roberta (Octavia Spencer), Frank and Mary’s landlady and Mary’s Teacher Bonnie (Jenny Slate) who watches out for Mary and gets close with Frank in the process. The film is directed by Marc Webb and written by Tom Flynn.

Jericho Rosales and Bela Padilla star in “The greatest and luckiest love story ever told.” The 2017 Filipino film is a joint project of Viva Films and N2 Productions. Bela plays Diane while Jericho stars as Joma in a story about two strangers who find out that their luck changes when they are together. Other actors in the film include Jeric Raval, Dennis Padilla, Cholo Barretto, Kim Molina, Thous Reyes, Issa Pressman, and PJ Endrinal.

One interesting fact about the film is that Bela had a hand in film’s story. She said she was inspired by the idea of luck when two radio hosts were talking about this on air while she was in her car. The title “Luck at First Sight,” was thus born. The film is directed by Dan Villegas who is the same creative mind behind romcom films “English Only Please,” “The Breakup Playlist,” “Walang Forever” and many others.

Vampires “Eat Local” every 50 years. Once every fifty years, the band of British vampires gathers in a farmhouse by the countryside to feast on locals. It is definitely a bloody feast joined by the Essex boy Sebastian Crockett, a vampire cougar Vanessa and a group of vampire killers from the Special Forces who have bitten more than enough for a lifetime. This action horror film is written by Danny King and directed by Jason Flemyng.
