What better way is there to give tribute to our very own Three-Stars-And-A-Sun than to watch our sariling-atin films, right? So, Pinoy movie buffs unite! Let us be loud and proud in our support for Philippine filmmakers! ‘Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino’ Films are of Diverse Creativity From Cinemalaya films to Pinoy Indie films, this week is surely going to bring out the patriotic side of any Filipino. Here are this week’s movie mix as featured by the Philippine Daily Inquirer. 1. “Patay Na Si Hesus” by Victor Kaiba Villanueva. The film is about a single mom who decides to take her dysfunctional family on a road trip from Cebu to Dumaguete to honor her estranged father in his funeral. The film stars Jaclyn Jose, Angelica Kanapi, and Chai Fonacier. 2. “Salvage” by Sherad Anthony Sanchez. The story revolves around a team of reporters who investigate mystic killings in a barrio. When they are attacked by soldiers, they are forced to seek solace in the forest where their lives are in even more danger. The film stars JC de Vera, Joel Saracho, and Jessy Mendiola. 3. “Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23B” by Prime Cruz. Martin del Rosario, Cholo Barretto, and Ryza Cenon star in this tale about unexplained murders in a city and a mysterious woman who falls for a man seeking for love. Will she unleash the darkness inside of her or will she choose love? 4. “AWOL” by Enzo Williams. The action-thriller stars Gerald Anderson and Dianne Medina. It is about an elite sniper who does everything he can to protect his family from a man who threatens his life and everyone dear to him. 5. “Paglipay” by Zig Dulay. When an aeta reaches town after an epic journey through the mountain river, his life changes when he meets a girl from the city. The film features actors Garry Cabalic, Anna Luna, and Joan Dela Cruz. 6. “Triptiko” by Miguel Franco Michelena. A collection of bizarre stories on life’s most unexpected turn of events is the theme of this film starring Kylie Padilla, Albie Casino, Kean Cipriano and Joseph Marco. 7. “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” by Jason Paul Laxamana. Bela Padilla, Prince Stefan, and JC Santos brings a bittersweet love story of a college boy with a speech problem who is inspired to write poetry to win the love of his muse. His unexpressed love turns into a hundred poems for feelings he cannot openly declare. The story is inspired by Laxamana’s very own heartbreak. 8. “Birdshot” by Mikhail Red. The story is about a teenager named Maya who accidentally kills a Philippine Eagle. This spurs the authorities to hunt down the Eagle’s killer. She then runs to the forest in hiding following led by an eagle’s call. John Arcilla, Mary Joy Apostol and Arnold Reyes star in this acclaimed film. 9. “Star na si Van Damme Stallone” by Randolph Longjas. The dramedy is about a child with Down Syndrome named Van Damme Stallone who dreams of becoming an actor. His family does all they can to fulfill his dream and to also make it through every day. The cast includes Jadford Dilanco, Paolo Pingol and Candy Pangilinan. 10. “Hamog” by Ralston Jover. The film zeroes in on the lives of four street children known as “Batang Hamog.” They do everything they can to survive the streets. “Hamog” stars Sam Quintana, Zaijian Jaranilla, and Therese Malvar. 11. “Bar Boys” by Kip Oebanda. Carlo Aquino, Enzo Pineda, Rocco Nacino, and Kean Cipriano bring to life the story of four law students who are struggling to finish. The movie’s plot is born out of Oebanda’s research on what is really going on among aspiring lawyers. 12. “Pauwi Na” by Paolo Villaluna. The movie stars Bembol Roco, Meryll Soriano, Jerald Napoles, Jess Mendoza, Chai Fonacier, and Cherry Pie Picache. It is about a struggling family that decides to go back to the province in a pedicab. The film won the top prize at the Shanghai Fest for its humanism and universality.
