Movie Mix August 22: Humor, Horror, and Real Life Sentiments at its Best

“Miss Granny” is a Filipino adaptation of the 2014 South Korean blockbuster of the same name. In the movie, Sarah is Fely. She is a grumpy grandma who suddenly turns into her younger self after having her picture taken in a certain studio. With her youth, she helps her grandson (James Reid) fulfill his dreams to be a musician with the best of the 50’s! Xian Lim and Nova Villa also star in the film directed by Joyce Bernal.

“Crazy Rich Asians” has been in the buzz for weeks now. The American rom-com film based on the 2013 novel by Kevin Kwan zeroes in on an Asian-American woman who meets the family of her boyfriend. Little did she know that her boyfriend is insanely rich. As she spends time living among the rich and lavish of Singapore, she slowly realizes how different she really is.

“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” is the third installment to the Hotel Transylvania franchise. This time around, Dracula falls in love with a ship captain known as Ericka Van Helsing while on vacation cruise with his family and friends. Mavis, Dracula’s daughter, then discovers that Ericka is the great-granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing who is Dracula’s arch-enemy.

“The First Purge” is a dystopian action horror film that is actually the fourth installment in The Purge franchise. This 2018 release is a prequel that depicts the origins of the first annual “Purge” – a once-a-year event when crime in America is made legal for 12 straight hours.

“The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion” is a South Korean film about revenge directed by Park Hoon-Jung. It tells the story of a high school student with amnesia who tries everything to find out what really happened to her. In the process of her doing that, she finds out that what’s in her past is a darkness unimaginable.
