Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes

Okay, breathe in… breathe out. This week’s movie mix is a promising ride with “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes,” “12 Strong,” “Insidious: The Last Key,” “All The Money In The World,” and of course, “Mama’s Girl.” Not only are these action-packed and what can be described as the best of human interest stories, these films also feature some of the best actors beloved to movie land both in the Philippines and abroad.

Pinoy A-listers Angelica Panganiban and Judy Ann Santos are devoted wives in “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes;” while Sofia Andres and Diego Loyzaga are out to make everyone swoon in “Mama’s Girl.” Also in this week are Hollywood Royalty Chris Hemsworth, Michael Pena, Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Williams, Charlie Plummer, and producer Ridley Scott. Now with movie personalities like these in this week’s playlist, what more can cinema buffs ask for, right? With your essential popcorn, soda and your preferred seat in the movie theater, you are more than settled, my friend. Enjoy the ride!

MovieMix January 18: Star-Studded Glory

“Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes” by Star Cinema, Quantum Films and IdeaFirst Company is a much-awaited film in the country, especially that two of the best actors/comediennes  Angelica Panganiban and Judy Ann Santos are out to spice things up with their awesome sense of Pinoy quirkiness. Angelica and Judy Anne are devoted wives in the story who find out that their husbands are not who they expect to be. The film is directed by Jun Robles Lana. It is interesting to know that this film reunites Angelica and Judy Ann after their film, “Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka,” which was released about seventeen years ago.

“12 Strong” is a non-fiction tale of the Horse Soldiers sent to Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks. Christ Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Trevante Rhodes, Navid Negahban, Geoff Stults, Thad Luckinbill, Jack Kesy, William Fichtner, Rob Riggle and many others bring the heroic story of CIA paramilitary officers and U.S. Special forces with a mission to take out the Taliban forces right after the terrorist attack of September 11. The film is directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and is based on Doug Stanton’s book, “Horse Soldiers.” The movie is also known as “12 Strong: The Declassified True Story of the Horse Soldiers.”

“Insidious: The Last Key” brings the worst of fears to life. The film is the fourth installment of the Insidious franchise and is directed by Adam Robitel. Dr. Elise Rainier has no choice but to the most dreaded haunting in her own home. The film stars Josh Steward, Lin Shaye, and Spencer Locke.

“All the Money in the World” by Ridley Scott is inspired by true events and is about the realities of extortion and kidnapping. The movie is based on John Pearson’s book, “Painfully Rich: The Outrageous Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Heirs of J. Paul Getty.” Aside from Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, Romain Duris, Charlie Plummer, Andrew Buchan; Timothy Hutton is also in the crime thriller. The film received nominations at the 75th Golden Globe Awards which includes Best Director, Best Actress (Drama), and Best Supporting Actor.

“Mama’s Girl” by Regal Entertainment is a family drama and love story starring Diego Loyzaga and Sofia Andres. It capitalizes on the sentiments of a mother-and-daughter relationship through Mina (Sylvia Sanchez) and Abby (Sofia Andres). The story that aims to bridge the gap between the millennials and the older generation is written by the acclaimed writer, Gina Marissa Tagasa.
