Movie Mix October 4: Brings Back On of the 80’s Best

The neo-noir sci-fi film, “Blade Runner 2049” is a must watch. It is a sequel to the 1982 film, “Blade Runner” where  Harrison Ford first starred in as Rick Deckard. A “blade runner” is a name given to detectives who work in a special police squad whose primary function is to eliminate cyborgs called “Replicants.” The 2017 film features Ryan Gosling as Officer K, a young blade runner in the LAPD, who stumbles upon a dark secret that could end all human existence. This discovery brings him to Rick Deckard (Ford) who disappeared 30 years ago. The movie also stars Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, David Bautista, Jared Leto and Mackenzie Davis.

Feel all cuddly with the family with “My Little Pony: The Movie.” When an evil force threatens Ponyville, the Mane 6 (Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Spike) go on a journey that takes them beyond Equestria to save their home through the magic of friendship. The musical fantasy features the voices of Tara Strong (Twilight Sparkle), Ashleigh Bell (Rainbow Dash and Applejack), Andrea Libman (Pink Pie and Fluttershy), Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity), Cathy Weseluck (Spike), Emily Blunt (Tempest Shadow), Zoe Saldana (Captain Calaeno), Kristin Chenoweth (Princess Skystar), Uza Aduba (Queen Novo), and Liev Shreiber (Storm King).

The biographical comedy-drama “Victoria & Abdul” stars Judi Dench and Ali Fazal. The movie is actually a sequel to the 1997 film, “Mrs. Brown” and is based on the book written by Shrabani Basu. It is about the real-life relationship between Queen Victoria of the UK and her Indian servant, Abdul Karim. The chemistry between the two characters is perfectly delighting and heartwarming. Judi Dench reprises her role as Queen Victoria in “Mrs. Brown.”  The film is directed by Stephen Frears and features the music of Thomas Newman. BBC Films is also one of the film’s production companies.

“New Generation Heroes” pays tribute to teachers all over in celebration of World Teacher’s Day on October 5. The film shows the intricacies and difficulties in the life of teachers who raise their own families. Aiko Melendez is a teacher who leaves her family to work in Korea while Jao Mapa is one who has found the love for teaching even if he only finished 5th grade. Joyce Penas, on the other hand, is a resourceful and business-minded teacher who does not rely on her profession for the needs of her family. Finally, Ms. Anita Linda portrays a retired teacher who still wholeheartedly touches the lives of those around her, something that goes beyond the four walls of the classroom. The movie is directed by Anthony Hernandez and is produced by Golden Tiger.

Pinoy “It Girls” star in horror film, “The Debutantes.” Regal Entertainment puts the spotlight on five of the Philippines’ “It Girls” Miles Ocampo, Jane De Leon, Sue Ramirez, Michelle Vito and Chanel Morales. What sets this horror flick apart from its counterparts is the film’s bright hues. Instead of the mundane black and grays, the film plays around with blues, reds, pinks, greens and yellows. This is also one reason why filmmaker Prime Cruz describes his film with the words,“color horror.” “Fresh scare tactics” are also three of his other magic words.
