September is not yet over and this is definitely a good thing. If you find yourself asking why it is because there is still much to look forward to in this month’s movie mix. This week, however, we will have our fair share of a two-hour escape from reality with the films “The House with a Clock in its Walls,” “Nakalimutan Ko Nang Kalimutan Ka,” “Reprisal,” and “Searching.”
Movie Mix September 19: Keeping the Movie Options Full
“The House with a Clock in its Walls” is a film directed by none other than Eli Roth and is based on the novel of the same name written by John Bellairs in 1973. Considered as a post-Potter children’s fantasy by The Guardian, this film is nothing short of comfy and family-oriented in its truest sense. It tells the story of a boy who sets off to live with his uncle in a mysterious old creaky house that is actually haunted by the owner’s ghost. The film stars Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and Owen Vaccaro.
“Nakalimutan Ko Nang Kalimutan Ka” stars Alex Gonzaga and Jerald Napoles. It is a romantic comedy about the realities and humor of moving on from a bad breakup. Consider it a film that shows the many stages of getting over. The movie is directed and written by Fifth Solomon and casts other Pinoy actors including Candy Pangilinan, Jayson Gainza, Loisa Andalio, Alora Sasam, Jai Agpangan, Joj Agpangan, Juan Miguel Severo, Keiko Necesario, and Ricci Chan.
“Reprisal” is an action thriller about an unsettling bank heist brought to life by actors Bruce Willis, Frank Grillo, Johnathon Schaech, and Olivia Culpo. Frank Grillo is Jacob, a bank manager who experiences first-hand a violent heist by a mysterious and strategic assailant. Because the heist haunts him so much, he confides with his ex-cop neighbor James (Bruce Willis). Together they hunt down the mastermind behind the bank heist even if it means taking justice into their own hands.
“Searching” is a film directed by Aneesh Chaganty about a father (John Cho) who tries to find his missing daughter (Michelle La), who is just sixteen years old. A police detective played by Debra Messing helps in the search. The film received positive reviews is described as the first Hollywood thriller on mainstream that is headlined by an Asian-American actor.
