It’s always a good time to hit the cinemas for a little break from the everyday hassles! With the various film choices out this week, moviegoers are surely in for a treat. This week’s line-up includes The Mummy, Baywatch, Resident Evil: Vendetta, The Lost City of Z, Sleepless, and Shut in.
Watching “The Mummy” would be the perfect choice if you’re into the action-fantasy vibe starring Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis. If that doesn’t fit your tastes then there’s the revamped “Baywatch” with its trademark slow motion running at the beach with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Feel like watching an animated adventure? Then you can watch “Resident Evil: Vendetta,” starring voices from Erin Cahill and Kevin Dorman.
Up for a true to life drama? Then “The Lost City of Z,” starring Charlie Hunnam, is the film to watch. While for those insomniacs, “Sleepless” with Dominic Roco, Glaiza de Castro, and TJ Trinidad, is your go to film. Last but not the least, if you’re looking to get your heart beating out of your chest, Naomi Watts stars in the thriller “Shut In”.
June 07 Movies: Ancient Princess Awakens, Truce To Save The Bay, Animated Zombie Battle, Amazon Journey, Nocturnal Bonding, Winter Storm Rescue
Egyptian Princess Mayhem. Directed by Alex Kurtzman, “The Mummy” follows the soldier of fortune Nick Morton who explores ancient sites. Morton, played by Tom Cruise, sells artifacts he finds in these sites to the highest bidder. During one of his adventures in the Middle East, all the commotion from an attack awakens something that shouldn’t have been. This just happens to be Ahmanet, an ancient Egyptian princess that’s under the desert for about a thousand years. Her resurrection obviously spells out havoc, and Nick Morton has to be able to stop her from terrorizing London.
Slow motion beach bodies in motion. “Baywatch,” directed by Seth Gordon, is a homage to the lifeguarding TV series starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. It’s still the same “Baywatch,” complete with the slow motion running and crime solving. Only this time, it’s Dwayne Johnson (Mitch Buchannon) and Zac Efron (Matt Brody) as the stars. This laughter filled film has the two getting off the wrong foot at the beginning. But, in the end, set aside their differences to stop a criminal plot for the good of the beach.
The battle for a safe New York. In a world where there’s chaos because of a deadly virus that’s spreading like wildfire, someone has to step up to save the day. In “Resident Evil: Vendetta,” Chris Redfield, voiced by Kevin Dorman, is part of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. In this action-horror animated film, Redfield has the assistance of two government agents. Together with them, they fight zombies and stop the madman Glenn Arias (John DeMita) from spreading the virus in New York City.
A struggle to prove a discovery. “The Lost City of Z” piques the interest of many because it being an adventure-biography. Charlie Hunnam stars as Percy Fawcett, who ventures into the Amazon to find a magical city he later calls Z. Fawcett discovers proof of such an advanced society but the establishment refuses to believe him. Through frustration, there’s determination. With the support of his wife and son, he returns to the jungle. Later, Fawcett disappears along with his son on an expedition.
What happens when the rest of the world is asleep. A girl and guy talking about anything and everything that can be talked about. Seems normal right? Well, in this situation they’re insomniacs, and the conversations usually happen when most people are asleep. “Sleepless,” starring Glaiza de Castro, Dominic Roco, and TJ Trinidad, tackles real-life problems faced by the new generation. Things like being lonely, in a rut, and having a dislikable job. Maybe there’s good in being an insomniac when there’s someone you can be sleepless with.
Striving to survive in a shut in state. It’s not easy being widowed, well for Naomi Watts (Mary Portman) in the film “Shut In,” it really isn’t. After losing her husband in an accident, the same accident also left her 18-year old stepson, Stephen (Charlie Heaton) bedridden. Now he’s completely dependent on her while problems pile up. Portman works as a child psychologist and in the horror-thriller film, she believes one of her patients that disappeared is now haunting them. What more is that there’s no escape because of a dangerous snow storm. Mary needs to ensure there are no more disappearances, but can she do it while being shut in?
