For those who have been stuck in a rut left unaware, we are just about to say goodbye to November. For sure many nine-to-fivers have already received their 13th month pay and so there isn’t any excuse to skip that much-awaited silver screen movie marathon. There are some pretty good movies out this week and cramming in some downtime will surely make any cinema buff excited and ready to say Hello to December. Perhaps two or three movies in a row would seem worthwhile specially with “Unexpectedly Yours,” “Wonder,” “Murder on the Orient Express,” “Daddy’s Home 2,” and “Barbi D’ Wonder Beki.”
Movie Mix November 29: Feel Good Films at its Best
“Unexpectedly Yours” has been most talked about over the past month because it brings back the Robin Padilla-Sharon Cuneta tandem along with one of the millennial’s “It” couple Julia Barrreto and Joshua Garcia. The film by Star Cinema is about former high school friends, Patty (Sharon) and Cocoy (Robin) who bump into each other 30 years later as organizers of their very own high school reunion. Patty has a daughter named “Yanni” (Julia) while Cocoy has a nephew named “Jason.” Little did they know that this unexpected turn of events makes every single one of them fall for Cupid’s trap. The movie is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.
Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson help Jacob Tremblay fit in in “Wonder.” The New York Times bestseller stars Jacob Tremblay as a fifth-grade boy “Auggie,” which is short for August Pullman. Auggie has a rare facial deformity called Treacher Collins Syndrome which is also why he was home schooled early on. This time around, however, Auggie’s parents Nate and Isabel (Owen and Julia) decide to enroll their son in Beecher Prep, a mainstream private school. The inspirational story shows just how anyone can beat the odds with true friends and the love of family.
Hollywood A-Listers are involved in a mysterious crime in “Murder on the Orient Express.” The mystery drama film is based on Agatha Christie’s 1934 novel of the same name. When a murder happens on the Orient Express that Hercule Poirot is travelling on, he is asked to solve the mystery. Hailed as the best detective in the world, he would need to find out who is guilty because everyone on the train is a suspect. The all-star cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley.
Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg try to deal with their own intrusive fathers, Mel Gibson and John Lithgow, in “Daddy’s Home 2.” This Christmas comedy is a sequel to 2015’s “Daddy’s Home.” Now that Brad and Dusty (Mark and Will) have gotten a hang of each other, they now face what is perhaps the most inconvenient holiday season ever since they would each have to be with their intrusive fathers – Don and Kurt (John and Mel). To make things even more complicated, Dusty would also need to deal with his stepchild’s biological father named “Roger” played by John Cena. It will surely be one unforgettable Christmas celebration.
Paolo Ballesteros returns as “Barbi D’ Wonder Beki.” The film by OctoArts Films stars Paolo Ballesteros as “Barbi.” In the 1990’s it was Joey de Leon who played the same character in the movie, “The Wonder Beki.” This year’s film is about the coming-of-age of Billy Bayagan, a closeted gay in a conservative family.
