Movie Mix November 11: An Ode to Fear and Human Interest
“All I See is You” takes on the cliche “Love is Blind.” The film tells the story about a woman named Gina who lost her sight in a tragic accident years ago. When she and her husband, James, move to Bangkok, she then undergoes a state-of-the-art operation that allows her to see again. Now that Gina’s sight is restored, James suddenly changes feeling insecure and threatened by the supposed miracle. “All I See is You” stars Blake Lively, Danny Huston, and Yvonne Strahovski.
Alessandra de Rossi returns in a film about the oddities of love in “12” with Ivan Padilla. Alessandra and Ivan play the roles of Erika, former band member turned stay-at-home partner, and Anton who is a commercial director. They are a couple who have been friends for five years then decided to pursue their romance which lasted for round seven years. This adds up to a total of twelve years together, thus, the title. When Anton decides to pop the question, though, saying “yes” isn’t at all conventional.
“The Ghost Bride” starring Kim Chiu is a certified hit earning P14.3 million in its first day. The Star Cinema film directed by Chito Roño tells the story of a poor woman named “Mayen” who is faced with a fatal choice between living freely or to to marry a dead person in exchange for wealth so her family can live comfortably. The star ensemble includes Matteo Guidicelli, Alice Dixson, Christian Bables, and Ina Raymundo among many others. The film also reunites Kim and Matteo after their celebrated TV series, “My Binondo Girl.”
“Jigsaw” is the eight installment in the Saw franchise that is set ten years after the notorious Jigsaw killer’s death. In this 2017 film, a series of gruesome deaths turn up around the city and when police investigate, evidence points to the deceased John Kramer, the man known as “Jigsaw” who died ten years ago. The film stars Matt Passmore, Tobin Bell, Callum Keith Rennie, and Hannah Emily Anderson.
“Loving Vincent” tells the life of famed artist Vincent Van Gogh through an animated drama film. It is the first fully painted animated feature film that prides itself with 65,000 frames of oil paintings on canvass which uses the same technique as Van Gogh. About 115 painters made this film possible. The film funded by the Polish Film Institute is written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman.
