Moving To Canada: Immigration Website Crashes on Eve of U.S. Elections

The official website of Canada’s immigration service crashed on November 8, eve of the U.S. presidential elections. According to reports, the site went down due to the sheer number of inquiries made at that time. Reports also claimed that most of these inquiries came from Americans looking to leave the country.

On the eve of the elections, as results came in showing that Donald Trump may likely win, more and more people started looking for other options. With Trump’s racist and sexist pronouncements during his campaign, citizens have become more anxious about what his presidency will bring.

Among Trump’s pronouncements include several ones about immigrants, particularly on his crackdown on illegal migrants. He proposes better immigration controls in order to weed out illegals, but at the same time, he also said that he will find ways to keep immigrants from coming even legally.

Canada Immigration Website Crashes: Canada Welcomes Immigrants With Open Arms

Canada, on the other hand, welcomes immigrants to the country. In an official tweet released on the eve of the elections, Canada touted how immigrants who come to the country can bring their “cultural traditions” with them.

Throughout the years, Canada has accepted many immigrants, especially professional and skilled workers. According to official statistics, around 250,000 people from countries all over the world received permanent residency status every year. These numbers only cover the years 2005 to 2014.
