A mysterious ‘alien call’ was heard and discovered coming from the deepest parts of the Maria Trench. The creepy moan sound was about three seconds hitting super-low at 38 hertz then super-high frequencies at 8,000 hertz. It was captured several times in an expedition between 2014 and 2015. It had been a challenge to find its source, whether natural or unnatural.
Solving The Secrets Of The Mariana Trench
In a report made by The Sun, researchers at the Hatfield Marine Science Center of the Oregon State University [OSU] said that the source of the mysterious sound could be that of a baleen whale. This according to a machine called “hydrophone” which was sent down to Mariana Trench, the deepest known part of the world’s oceans, which lies between Australia and Japan.
“The low-frequency moaning part is typical of baleen whales, and it’s that kind of twangy sound that makes it really unique. We don’t find many new baleen whale calls,” said one of OSU’s marine bio acoustics expert, Sharon Nieukirk.
Whales And Aliens In The Deepest Part Of The Sea
Although different but in terms of frequency and structure, the mysterious Mariana Trench sound is similar to that of a dwarf minke whale. This is the one from Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and makes the so-called Star Wars minke call.
One big question so far is what kind of call is the sound for? “If it’s a mating call, why are we getting it year round? That’s a mystery,” Nieukirk said. The sound is “very distinct, with all these crazy parts” she added.
Another big question is if the Mariana Trench sound is not a whale sound, what then could it be? “It really is an amazing, weird sound, and good science will explain it,” Nieukirk said.
