Here’s Why Nadine Lustre And James Reid Shared A Semicolon On Instagram

Nadine Lustre and James Reid shared a photo of a semicolon with the hashtag #keepgoing on their Instagram stories and fans are baffled. Soon after, thousands followed and supported the hashtag on Twitter until it became number one top trending in the Philippines. There are no official statements from the duo but apparently, Oct 10 is World Mental Health Day and the semicolon is actually a logo of Project Semicolon, an organization dedicated to the prevention of suicide. There are also reports saying Nadine Lustre’s brother recently committed suicide. Here’s what we know.

Project Semicolon carries the slogan, “Your story is not over.” This organization is based on the belief that suicide is preventable and everyone has a role to play in preventing it. On Facebook, they explain that, “A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.” It seems JaDine decided to use this to raise awareness of suicide, depression, and mental health and used their social media platforms to do so.

JaDine posts semicolon with #keepgoing hashtag

On Oct 10 at around 2 pm, loveteam JaDine posted a black and white photo on Instagram carrying the hashtag #keepgoing. Nadine added a photo that said, “You are stronger than depression.” Check photos below.

Soon after, thousands of fans followed the trend and started to post similar messages on Twitter encouraging other people to keep going despite tough times. Some also thought of encouraging Nadine herself while some share how proud they are of her.

Not long ago in 2015, Nadine Lustre shared her fair share of depression. While playing Leah on “On The Wings Of Love,” Nadine shared with ABS-CBN how difficult it was to disconnect from her character since she was also going through personal issues as well. It was at that time that she shared a photo on Instagram saying she has gotten to a point where she didn’t know herself anymore. She went on to say, “I constantly feel like I’m on the verge of breaking down. I’m coming apart at the seams and it scares me.” This worried fans then. To that, James Reid said via photo on Instagram, “You just got to keep your eye on the prize. Remember why you are doing this, your reason.”

This could be one reason why Nadine Lustre and James Reid decided to raise awareness through posting a semicolon on Instagram. It seems JaDine were successful in their goal of raising awareness on depression, suicide, and mental health right on World Mental Health Day.

Rest in Peace, Isaiah Lustre

Nadine did not immediately speak to the press when reports came out about her brother’s death. A report by Philstar says a certain Isaiah Paguia Lustre took his own life by means of a gunshot to the head. No confirmations yet if this Isaiah is indeed the brother of Nadine Lustre. In a Wiki profile, though, an Isaiah is listed as one of her siblings. UPDATE: Pilipinas Popcorn is saddened to report the tragic death of Nadine Lustre’s brother. Story here.

The report said Isaiah’s siblings, Ezekiel and Naomi were playing when they heard a gunshot at around 7:45 pm on Oct 9. They ran to their brother’s room and saw Isaiah on the floor. They rushed Isaiah to the Pacific Global Medical Center but unfortunately, it was too late report says.
