This year’s run is slated for April 23, Sunday, to coincide with the celebration of International Earth Day. Unlike the previous years however, this year’s race will be happening simultaneously in 5 countries: the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. In the Philippines, the SM Mall of Asia will serve as the race venue. NatGeo Earth Day Run 2017: A Run For The Earth National Geographic Channel (NGC) has been organizing its Earth Day run for the past seven years. This year’s run, which is the 8th edition, differs from the previous years. Instead of just one race, it will be five simultaneous races in key Asian cities. Manila will be joined by Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taichung and Singapore. Like the previous races, projects for the environment will be the biggest winners this year. Each race venue identified its own beneficiary, spreading the benefits to more than one environmental project. According to an Inquirer report, among the beneficiaries this year are the Irrawaddy dolphins in Palawan, Apo Reef in Occidental Mindoro, Ipo Watershed in Bulacan and the Gift of Life village in Masbate and several others in the other countries.
