National Artist Ben Cabrera, more popularly known as BenCab, recently celebrated 50 years as an artist. BenCab is known for his artworks in painting as well as being a staunch promoter of culture and arts. To mark his 50th year, he released his very first art book for children in partnership with the Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS), a non-profit organization. Take Home BenCab’s Art For only PhP300 a copy, the activity book features selected artwork of BenCab, selected by CANVAS based on themes that the NGO is working such as disaster response and heroism. According to a GMA report, CANVAS said that BenCab was the perfect artist because of the range of art that he has done on these themes. Keeping Small Hands Busy Among the activities included in the book are coloring selected BenCab works, which children will most likely love. CANVAS told GMA that art and coloring books were considered as a good form of therapy for kids who have experienced trauma due to local disasters. To develop the activities around the art, they also asked for the help of child development expert and teacher Karen F. Desamparado. Three thousand copies will be made available to regular buyers, while 15,000 copies will be distributed for free. For more information on how to get the book, visit CANVAS’ Facebook page.
