The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) launched a social media campaign called #Pagyanig Challenge, with the official hashtag, #Pagyanig. It was launched on April 21, thesame day the 1st Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) was done. The 2nd NSED was on June 22, the 3rd and most recent one on September 28.
The#Pagyanig campaign did not only shake the Philippines, it made waves on social media as well. Consider it an aftershock of peoples experiences and comments on the national simultaneous earthquake drill. People were encouraged to share photos or videos doing the DUCK, COVER, HOLD with the official hashtag. The results were overwhelming.
Here are some of the #Pagyanig Twitter posts that we thought were very interesting
1. 4 billion impressions? These are really good numbers considering its a safety campaign, way to go Philippines!
2. Schools, government offices and other business establishments from all over the country actively participated! Did you?
3. Maybe some weren’t that aggressive but still used the hashtag
4. Others still had a touch of humor, a ‘pinoy’ thing you can’t really do away with!
5. Some on the other hand gave serious advice or actual events, while others expressed fear and worry
No matter what people have been posting on social media, good or bad, indifferent or engaged, humor or worry, the point is people are actively participating in such a campaign as this. It’s putting social media to good use and maximizing it to create awareness in a digital age.
