How The Islands Were Chosen

According to Travel and Leisure, the survey was conducted from November 2016 to March 2017, through a digital marketing firm. The online survey was participated in by readers through the magazine, tablet editions, social media, newsletters and the website. Readers were asked to rate the island based on a number of characteristics. These included natural attractions/beaches, activities/sights, restaurants/food, people/friendliness and value.

After the survey, scores were tallied and the islands were ranked according to their scores. This year, only three islands in Asia made it to the list: Palawan, Boracay, and Bali in Indonesia.
