Traveling to Baguio City for the Panagbenga this year? Let us help you answer that favorite Pinoy question: Saan tayo kakain? (Where are we going to eat?) With our guide to restaurants along Session Road, you will never go hungry while you are here at the Summer Capital. Unless otherwise indicated, most of the restaurants listed here are tried and tested.

Homegrown Baguio Restaurants

Because we are great believers in supporting local establishments, here is a list of places you can try for a satisfying meal, or two.

1. Vizco’s Restaurant and Ocha Asian Restaurant (Porta Vaga Mall). Comfort food is what you will find at Vizco’s, and in good sized portions. Make sure to save some room for dessert as this is the home of the best Strawberry Shortcake in the city. Ocha on the other hand is known for its Asian Fusion dishes, although they also make a mean Gambazette Pasta (Shrimp in Tomato-Pesto Sauce).

2. Solibao (Porta Vaga Mall). Solibao features Filipino dishes such as lechon, inihaw and merienda fare like palabok. The original branch is inside Burnham Park, so this is one of their branches.

3. Sizzling Plate (86 Session Road). If you are craving for steaks and anything on a sizzling plate, this is the place for you. They also have high-grade beef steaks available for steak connoisseurs.

4. Jack’s Restaurant (Laperal Building). On a budget? Jack’s Restaurant has got you covered. With filling meals at budget prices, you will not leave hungry. Try their signature Jack’s Rice – fried chicken, fried pork slices, chopsuey, rice topped with a fried egg for less than P100.

5. Volante (110 Session Road). Pizza and pasta on your mind? Volante will not disappoint. Serving up freshly baked pizzas and delicious pasta dishes, this homegrown restaurant is also known for its affordable prices.

6. Oh My Gulay! (5/f La Azotea Building). If you have a vegetarian in your midst, be fair and experience vegetarian cuisine with him or her. Oh My Gulay! serves up organic and vegetarian meals and snacks, as well as good coffee and many types of herbal teas. A big plus is that the restaurant is a visual delight as well, because it shares the space with an art gallery/space.

New Kids On The Block

There are several newer restaurants that have joined the scene along Session. These restaurants are also homegrown but a bit more modern in their cuisines. Fusion of flavors comes to mind when describing them.

1. Drop Out (Session Road Rotonda). Drop Out is the place to be if you want to hang out after watching the parade, or visiting the usual tourist haunts. It serves up dishes that go well with their cocktails and other spirits.

4. Il Padrino Cafe (87 Session Road). Il Padrino Cafe is not only known for good coffee, it also has one of the best Pesto dishes in town. Their menu also includes Italian sandwiches, and pizza. Try their cakes too, like the Dulce De Leche.
