American a cappella group Pentatonix will be performing at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila on Saturday, September 24, and fans of the hugely popular group are brimming with excitement. For fans and non-fans alike, the five member group which also goes by the name PTX has consistently impressed its audience with their innovative medleys and impressive covers of popular songs, most of which can be watched via their official YouTube channel, PTXOfficial. 1. With over 200 million (!) views, the most impressive video on the group’s channel is their tribute to Daft Punk, an electronic and house music duo from France. According to Fuse’s own countdown, the video showcased Pentatonix’ skills in a cappella work by converting Daft Punk’s electronic sound into a “vocal-focused mashup.”

2.The second most-watched video is a mashup called “Evolution of Music,” which takes the listener through a sampling of music from the 1100s up the more modern 2010s. The video has over 90 million views.

3.The third video on the top 5 is the group’s version of a Christmas classic,”The Little Drummer Boy,” which has garnered over 85 million views.

4.Video number four with over 71 million views is a cover of the popular Lorde hit, “Royals,” which once again shows the pop music appeal of the group.

5. The last video on the top 5 most-watched is a cover of a pop-hip-hop hit, “Can’t Hold Us,” which has over 63 million views. Their performance in this video proves how versatile the group is.

Pentatonix and Social Media: A Winning Combination

Pentatonix’ effective use of social media, particularly of YouTube, is one of the reasons why the group has become so popular. Their YouTube channel is the 13th most subscribed music video channel with over 10.5 million subscribers and growing. According to Hypebot, Pentatonix was able to “build a social media powerhouse” making use of platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
