The Department of Tourism (DOT) says that the Philippines may possibly host the Miss Universe 2017 pageant slated in November. According to Secretary Wanda Teo, the country has been offered the rights to host said pageant. If it pushes through, it will the country’s second time to play host.
According to an ABS-CBN report, Sec. Teo revealed that the offer has indeed been made.
Miss Universe Organization Pleased With Philippine Hosting
The Miss Universe Organization, the pageant’s organizers apparently were impressed with the country’s hosting abilities during the 65th edition of the pageant. While the coronation night was held in Manila in January 2017, the preliminary events took place in several cities and sites across the country.
According to Sec. Teo, the organization claimed that the pageant which was telecast all over the world even beat the pre-events of the Super Bowl in social media coverage. The pageant in January continued to be a trending topic even after coronation night.
She also added that although the offer was on the table, the department is carefully studying it before making any decision. Among the changes she wants to happen if they accept is to have more control over the event. The department will also need to look for sponsors to help defray the expenses in preparation and actual conduct.
Pia Wurtzbach Will Surely Be Thrilled
With the Miss Universe 2017 scheduled this coming November, the department needs to make a decision soon. If it does choose to accept, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will surely be thrilled. Pia was instrumental in getting the Philippines to host the 2016 pageant. If it happens in the country again, she will surely support it and the country’s bet, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Rachel Peters.
She may also be expected to play an important role in the upcoming pageant. Despite the fact she is no longer the crown holder, Pia continues to use her influence in her advocacy for HIV-AIDS awareness among others. Her life story will also be featured in ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya, with Liza Soberano as the young Pia Wurtzbach.
