Over the weekend, the internet was abuzz with news of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach arrested in Malaysia. The news however is fake. The report said that the beauty queen was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport after authorities allegedly discovered 10 kg of cocaine in two coffee bags in her luggage.
Miss Universe Organization: ‘Pia Has Never Been To Malaysia’
On October 22, Esther Swan of the Miss Universe Organization issued an official statement via her Facebook page, stating that the news about the arrest was not true. She also said that Pia has never been to Malaysia and has been working in the U.S. the past week. She also shared the link to the fake news report in question.
The fake news has been widely shared on social media by netizens. It has triggered searches for news related to the supposed Miss Universe arrest. News24-TV.com appears to be a hoax site dedicated to reporting false information, although the site’s About Us page does not describe its nature as satirical. According to WHOIS, it was created only on Oct. 18. See the screenshot below:
Pia Wurtzbach ‘Dating’ Marlon Stockinger Confirmed
In other news, Filipino-Swiss race car driver Marlon Stockinger recently revealed that he and Pia are “seeing each other.” He shared this with ABS-CBN’s Push during the Star Magic Ball, according to a report in Inquirer.net. He also mentioned that they are trying to keep their relationship “down low.” This confirms earlier speculation that the two were dating, after Marlon posted a photo of himself and Pia while they were in New York.
