5 Reasons Why ‘My Perfect You’ Is A Must-See

Star Cinema has once again brought fans a movie about second chances. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Cathy Garcia-Molina, “My Perfect You” stars Gerald Anderson and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach. Both actors are getting steadfast supports from their friends and loved ones. In Wurtzbach’s Instagram post seen below, Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan left a sweet message of support to her former roommate during Miss Universe. “So happy for you, P. You are living the dream! Keep inspiring, beautiful,’ she commented. Although wasn’t able to attend the premiere night held at Dolphy Theater on Tuesday, Bea Alonzo, the rumored girlfriend of Anderson, showed her support through sharing on Instagram the official poster of ‘My Perfect You.’

‘My Perfect You’ revolves around the character of Burn Toledo (Gerald Anderson), a graphic artist who was dumped by her girlfriend when he proposed to her. Brokenhearted, he went on a random road trip to a very far away place. Unknowingly, he drove himself to a hostel in Zambales called ‘Happy Sunshine Camp’ where he met Abi (Pia Wurtzbach), the owner, manager, bellgirl, caretaker, cook, lifeguard, laundry woman— basically the every hostel personnel in one body. Then, their own story began. Also starring in the film are Tonton Gutierrez, Dimples Romana, Janus Del Prado, Wilma Doesnt, RJ Ledesma, and child actress Xia Vigor who made the movie extra funny and commendable.

Here’s why you should see ‘My Perfect You’

Earning P10 million opening-day gross as reported by Star Cinema, ‘My Perfect You’ is definitely a rom-com movie to look forward to this summer. Add to that the fact that this is going to be Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina’s last film before she retires to give time to her kids as reported by ABS-CBN. “I just want to give time to my kids. I have served 25 years of my life sa show business. It’s time to give it to my children,” she shared.

A groundbreaking movie

It’s unfortunate that we have to see Direk Cathy, the ‘queen of romcoms,’ direct her last movie after she gave us every nostalgia we have on romantic comedy movies she made, like the ‘One More Chance,’ and ‘The Second Chance’ of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo and series of John Lloyd and Sarah Geronimo movies. What makes this movie a groundbreaker is the fact that it’s the very first time that both actors are working with each other and working with Direk Cathy.

In an interview with Star Cinema, Anderson said that working with Direk Cathy completed her journey with the production house. Direk Cathy also shared that it was her first time to meet Wurtzbach and that she doesn’t have any expectation for the movie like the other movies she made. She explained that the magic between the two character actors are worked out day by day and came out naturally.

Pia’s character and acting

After the success of her first starring movie ‘The Revengers Squad’ with the phenomenal box office star Vice Ganda and teen king Daniel Padilla, the former Miss Universe is continuing her dream to star on a film, now as the lead actress. Playing the role of a bubbly all-around hostel personnel, Pia’s charm, humor, and beauty make the character easy to fall in love with that’s why Burn believed her when she told him that, ‘I can be anything you want me to be.’

In a confrontation scene with Gerald, she exposed her dramatic facet. Add to that her genuine and heartfelt throw of dialogs. In this movie, Wurtzbach arguably proved that she is more than just a beauty and that she can make our hearts flutter with her natural charm and at the same time cry when she cries in the movie. In an interview with Star Cinema, she said that she thinks she found the right genre for her. “Nag-enjoy ako talaga. Feeling ko nahanap ko ‘yung genre na swak sa akin. But if I’m offered na something na more serious, game. I’m down to accept that. Kung babalik naman kami sa fantasy-action, game din ako doon,” she said.

Gerald’s character

After his latest afternoon series ‘Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin’ with ex Kim Chiu, Gerald proves that he is a good actor whoever his leading lady is. The story revolves around his character and as seen in the trailers and movie posters, he has a beard and had hair extensions for the role. Like his other drama show, he easily gets the sympathy of audience whenever he cries. His commendable performance on confrontation scenes mirroring the loss and grief of the character he’s portraying will make audience swoon.

The chemistry between the actors

Although this is their first film together, the charm of both actors added to the beauty of them together on the screen. Pia’s character who is bubbly and quirky contradicts the character of Gerald who is ‘exasperated’ by Pia’s character. But, we’ve seen in the trailer the glimpse of the birth of their love story. Undeniably, the two have a chemistry which we all should look forward to.

It’s a tale about second chances at love and life

Direk Cathy never fails to show us how second chances work. In this movie, she’s bringing us to the realization that we should give ourselves a second chance at love and life through the character of Burn. In the movie, broken-hearted Burn escaped the reality by traveling to a faraway place after she broke up with his girlfriend and got fired from his job. Burn then meets ‘the perfect girl’ Abi and his getaway became an opportunity for him to fall in love again.
