This is a live blog that recaps the highlights of Pinoy Boyband Superstar, Oct. 9 episode. Contestants who are given an approval rating of at least 75% get a chance to perform in front of judges Vice Ganda, Aga Muhlach, Yeng Constantino and Sandara Park.
#BoybandRules Kenith Pasco is In!
Kenith Pasco, 19 from Davao City is the first contestant to face the all-girl audience. He only got 61% from the girls however. Judge Aga Muhlach came to save him. He thrilled the girls and the judges with his rendition of Yeng’s “Pag-Ibig.” Yeng even sang along in the second voice with him towards the end.
Sandara noted that his performance was surprising because he came off as shy, but his moves while singing was like G Dragon, moves that are much needed in a boy band. Yeng cited that he can still hone his talent. During the voting, he got three “yes” votes from Aga, Sandara and Yeng. Vice voted “no.” Yeng was the deciding vote saying that he had her when he said he loved OPM.
Next up is Allen Abrenica, 17 years old from Batangas and a brother of Aljur Abrenica. With an 89% rating, he got a chance to perform in front of the judges. After singing an OPM song, “Huwag Na Lang,” Sandara said he had a sweet voice. Yeng said that she did not see the passion for music that he claimed he had. Given this, all four judges gave him a ‘no’ vote.
#BoybandRules Jimsen Jison is In!
Jimsen Jison, 20 years old from Marikina City is the next contestant. The bedimpled contestant confessed that he is trying to help his family through his singing which he mostly does in provincial gigs. He got the highest approval rating so far – 96% so he went into the judges booth. Jimsen sang another OPM song “Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin,” which Vice even sang along with him. With his nice and “pogi” voice, according to Yeng, he received four “yes” votes, making him the second contestant to join tonight.
The next contestant has music in his genes. Angelo Marco Sison, 21, is a son of OPM balladeer Marco Sison. The girls gave him an 84% approval rating, sending him straight to the judges booth. Before he sang, Marco Sison and one of his brothers were called to say hello to the judges. As expected, he sang a song by his father “It’s Just a Make Believe.” The judges were split in their votes, with Vice and Aga saying yes, but Sandara and Yeng saying no. This meant that Angelo would not go on to the next round.
Up next is from Jao Viola from Malabon City. He also got a 96% approval rating, the same as Jimsen. He performed another OPM “Tuloy Pa Rin.” Sandara said she liked the way he looked with his tattoos and his shaved hair, while Vice said that his singing was not all that. Sandara and Yeng gave him “yes” votes, and with Vice saying no, Aga gave the deciding vote, which sent him off to the next round.
