Pinoy Boyband Superstar’s next stage of the competition called the middle rounds started October 22. From the 40 heartthrob hopefuls that went into the next round, judges Vice Ganda, Yeng Constantino, Sandara Park and Aga Muhlach need to deliberate and select 20 boyband hopefuls who will continue in the competition.

The first stage of this round is the Judges’ Deliberation, which involves the four celebrity judges going through each and every contestant and recalling which of them hit the right combination of “charm, personality and singing ability.” As explained by host Billy Crawford, the 20 boys who will be chosen will be grouped by the judges into four groups of five members each. The twist in the mechanics is that another group of five will be formed from the bottom 20 boys. All in all five groups will perform in the live shows, after which the top 12 boys will be selected.

#BoybandMidrounds: Boys Exchange Tips on How to Make “Kilig”

Before the deliberation, all 40 boys were shown as they mingled and got to know each other while waiting for what is going to happen next. In their interviews, none of them were told about the next step in the competition so they were all eagerly waiting for what’s next. All of them have formed initial bonds with other contestants, even talking about tips on how to be effective when it comes to giving “kilig” to the girls.

At the deliberation table, the judges picked their top five, and from which they started picking who will be part of the top 20. According to the judges, the process was easy most of the time because they agreed on their picks. The main discussion point between judges Vice and Aga however involved the contestants who were English-speakers and were not well versed in Filipino.

#BoybandMidrounds: Sef Hynard, Russell Reyes, James Ryan Cesena Sing OPM songs

Before the judges could decide, contestants Sef Hynard, Russell Reyes and James Ryan Cesena were called, so that the judges can see if their Filipino speaking has improved. After all three performed, what was clear based on what the judges heard was that Russell had the best performance of an OPM song.

After completing the top 20, the judges proceeded to group the boys into four groups, namely acoustic, ballad, pop, R&B. On October 24, the top 20 will be revealed and the fight for the five slots in the fifth group will begin for the bottom 20 boys. Keep it here on Pilipinas Popcorn for updates.
