Although different from her old light-hearted, and comedic approaches, “Last Night” will feature a different feel to the Romance genre. If you think it’s not worth the watch or otherwise, read ahead. 4 Reasons to watch Joyce Bernal’s Last Night starring Toni Gonzaga, Piolo Pascual 1. Don’t be deceived by the trailer. While “Last Night’s” trailer is three minutes long, it’s far from explaining the plot itself. Instead, it lunges us into a whirlwind of confusion, fragmented thoughts and even more confusion. At first, we are introduced to two heroes who save an old man from the railway tracks. And then a montage of their slow but steady closeness begin to inflame. We are then moved toward the edge of the story where the initial thought becomes a fog of unsure assumptions. Here are a few weird deductions from observing the trailer: First, we see Mark (Piolo) with a rough goatee and a tired appearance. And in the hotel montages, we see Mark looking… younger? He could be by the looks of it. And in the ending, he’s in the same outfit that he was wearing on the first few shots. Is there an interplay of flash backs that we are still not seeing here? Second, notice how Carmina (Toni) prepares the red dress she says she is going to wear to their supposed date. Pause and take a good look at it. Because if you scroll back to the scene where she talks about her boyfriend, she is wearing the exact same dress. Maybe it’s just Carmina’s go-to dress, but symbolism in film isn’t something filmmakers take lightly. And there are loads more of these ‘weird’ clips that make you question: just what is going on in here? 2. It’s a Dark Romantic Comedy Story. In the Philippine Movie industry, you will seldom see romance and dark next to each other. Romances are usually cheesy and borderline cliche. But here, the story dips into the unusual, uncanny, and uncomfortable. This isn’t an ordinary boy-meets-girl phenomenon. So you know it’s going to be a good one. 3. Actors Piolo Pascual, Toni Gonzaga and Director Joyce Bernal loved it. Originally written by Bela Padilla who gave it for Joyce Bernal’s speculation, the screenplay received praise from the director. Even Toni and Piolo were hyped about doing it together. She told ABS-CBN that her co-star called her one time to ask her about reading a script they could do together. As soon as she read it, she said: “Tinext ko kaagad siya, halika gawin na natin ‘to gustong-gusto ko iyong script. Actually nagpaiyak sa akin sa buong story script, pangawala si PJ, pangatlo si direk Joyce.” 4. Beauty in Oddity. Who knew actress of “100 Tula Para kay Stella” actress Bela Padilla had a knack at writing Edgar Allan Poe-like love stories? According to the actress-slash-scriptwriter, she had written in a lot of places, and it all circled on her imagination. She mentions about her interest in suspense-thriller books, so she thought about trying it out. Good job, Bela! “Last Night” hits theaters this September 27 nationwide. Facebook Comments
