According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Cessna 152 two-seater airplane (RP-C8202) of Fly Fast Aviation Academy took off from Lingayen Airport at 8:22 AM for an orientation flight. Later that morning, the agency received a report about a plane crash in a fish pond near a salt farm in Barangay Telbang of Alaminos, Pangasinan. Local authorities identified the casualty as pilot instructor Capt. Daryl Uy. On the other hand, his 21-year-old-student, Caran France Kaura, is currently in Western Pangasinan District Hospital recovering from his injuries. Engine malfunction According to Kaura, an engine malfunction occurred in mid-air, forcing them to find a safer landing spot. The student told investigators that he managed to jump before the plane crashlanded and exploded into flames near the fishpond. Uy failed to jump on time after his leg got stuck in the plane. The police stated that the crash site is eight kilometers from the national highway and far from a residential area. The CAAP deployed the Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board (AAIIB) team to the site to identify the cause of the accident. Another Cessna aircraft accident A few days before Wednesday’s accident, a plane crashed involving another Cessna aircraft in Palawan. On December 10, a Cessna 206 (RP-C979) of Aerohub crashed into the waters of Barangay Tiniguiban in El Nido. The plane took off at 1:06 PM from San Vicente Airport carrying 25 boxes of live fish to the Sangley Airport in Cavite when its engine malfunctioned. The CAAP reported that fishermen were able to get to the scene first. But failed to rescue the people on board due to big waves. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was able to deploy personnel at around 3:50 PM near Duli Beach and rescued its two passengers – Capt. Jason Evasco, 39, a pilot, and Angele Ranario, 27, a mechanic. Coast Guard personnel later brought them to the El Nido Coast Guard station for further assistance. The CAAP is also looking to investigate the reason behind the Palawan plane crash.
