Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Looks like third time’s the charm. “Pokemon Sun and Moon” players around the world have succeeded in trading one million Pokemon through the Global Trade System, completing the global mission for the first time – and in only four days! After two failed attempts at completing previous global missions, victory has never tasted sweeter. For those who missed out on the global mission, don’t panic. The event officially ends on Feb. 14 at midnight UTC. This leaves plenty of time for opportunistic latecomers to register for a Pokemon Global Link (PGL) account, start trading, and cash in on those event rewards. As an added bonus, the game has promised to give each participant a Friend Ball, an uncommon pokeball that can maximize a Pokemon’s happiness, if the number of global trades reaches two million. So get trading! Also included below is a brief guide to new mechanics in Pokemon Sun and Moon, like the QR code system and Pokebank update, for any newcomers interested in the game. ‘Pokemon Sun And Moon,’ New Features, Global Mission The global mission is a new feature introduced in “Pokemon Sun and Moon.” Success hinges upon the collective cooperation of Pokemon players worldwide, who are given around two weeks to complete a mission. The first mission required players to catch 100 million Pokemon. The second challenged players to use the game’s Island Scan feature to scan and capture one million Pokemon. Both missions were (embarrassing) failures. It is believed that connectivity issues with the game’s Global Link feature contributed to the previous mission failures. The game later addressed these issues on their website. In the leadup to the third global mission event, players managed to rally together and strategize in online communities such as Reddit. One efficient plan urged players to each capture two Magnemites, place one in the Global Trade System, ask for a Magnemite in return, and then fulfill another player’s trade request for a Magnemite. ‘Pokemon Sun And Moon,’ Global Mission Event Rewards Players who take part in the global event are automatically entitled to a prize. The game has promised 2,000 Festival Coins, which can be used to increase your rank in Festival Plaza and unlock additional bonuses and facilities. The reward doubles to 4,000 Festival Coins if your game is linked to your PGL account. You can do this by obtaining a Game Sync ID at Festival Plaza and linking it at the Pokemon Global Link website. The rewards don’t just end here. If the number of global trades hits two million, players will each earn a Friend Ball. Additionally, any PGL members who perform five or more trades will receive five rare candies. Once midnight strikes on February 14, all the rewards will be distributed. ‘Pokemon Sun and Moon’ QR Codes (Island Scan), A Newcomer’s Guide QR codes are a popular new feature that can be used to capture rare Pokemon not found in the Alola region. How? Once the feature unlocks on your game, you’ll be able to scan QR codes in the real world with the Nintendo 3DS camera. The game can scan any QR code, from soup cans to movie posters, but there’s a better use for the scanner. Each Pokemon in the game comes with its own unique QR code that can be used to automatically add the Pokemon to your Pokedex. Afterwards, you can use your Pokedex to see the location of this Pokemon in Alola. A list of QR codes for Pokemon can be found here. There’s another benefit to QR codes. For every ten codes scanned, an additional feature called the Island Scan unlocks. Run this scan and a rare Pokemon not native to Alola – like Charmander, Totodile, Cyndaquil, and so on – will spawn on the island you’re currently on. Be careful, though. You will only be given one chance and one hour to catch the Pokemon. Only ten QR codes can be scanned every day, and you only have one attempt to catch the Pokemon. If you KO the Pokemon, you’ll have to try again another day. ‘Pokemon Sun and Moon’ PokeBank Update, Hacker Ban Recently, Pokemon Sun and Moon introduced an update that would allow players to transfer their Pokemon from the game to the PokeBank. Essentially, this frees up storage box space on the game as Pokemon are deposited in an internet-based storage area. Unfortunately, players took advantage of a glitch in the PokeBank feature as well as other glitches in order to illegally bring in Pokemon from previous games, such as the hard-to-obtain rare Pokemon Mew. This led to the recent controversy wherein thousands of players were banned from Pokemon Sun and Moon and their online accounts. ‘Pokemon Sun And Moon’ Anime Like all Pokemon games, Sun and Moon has its own anime to add details to its storyline in-game. The anime features Ash and Pikachu in the Alola region, with some major changes. Instead of battling gym leaders, Ash is part of a training school and is learning about the power of Z-rings and Z-moves.
