Movie Mix August 1: Opening the Month with a Bang

Anne Curtis kicks ass in Pinoy action film “Buy Bust.” Considered a must-see item for genre fans by Variety, Buy Bust became one of the most talked about films at the New York Asian Film Festival. The film directed by Erik Matti is about “drug squad members fighting for their lives in a maze-like Manila slum that resembles nothing less than hell on earth.” Also according to Variety, two of its superb film making ingredients are pulsating action and a lacerating social commentary on the Philippine drug war. Definitely a proudly Pinoy must-watch!

Christopher Robin is a heartwarming film of rekindled friendships. Now all-grown-up and way in too deep in the stresses of life, Christopher Robin gets the surprise of his life when he gets reunited with Pooh and the rest of his childhood friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. The story is brought to life by the all-star cast that includes Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin), Hayley Atwell (Mrs. Robin), Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh and Tigger), Brad Garrett (Eeyore), Toby Jones (Owl), Nick Mohammed (Piglet), Peter Capaldi (Rabbit), Sophie Okenodo (Kanga),and Sara Sheen (Roo).

Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon star in action comedy film “The Spy Who Dumped Me.” When Audrey’s (Mila Kunis) ex-boyfriend returns in her life ever so unexpectedly, her life as well as her best friend Morgan’s, take a tumultuous turn. Suddenly they find themselves in a conspiracy involving international assassins. Other members of the cast include Justin Theroux and Sam Heughan.

Mandy Moore and a group of  powerful teens star in the sci-fi thriller, “The Darkest Minds.” The film tells the story of a group of teenagers who develop superpowers and are then sent to detainment camps because they are considered a threat by the government. When they escape, they fight together for the future they desperately want to have. The movie also stars Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickinson, Linda Jewett, Patrick Ginson and many more.

Pinoy romcom “Harry & Patty” is a not-so-pretty love story portrayed by Ahron Billena and Kakai Bautista. The movie zeroes in on two incompatible people who are far from being attracted to one another. One is a businessman while the other drives a TNVS to make ends meet. As they spend more time getting to know each other, the common words “opposites attract” begin to make sense.

The Superhero fever is unstoppable with “Teen Titans Go! To The Movies.” The animated superhero comedy film features how the Teen Titans do everything possible to star in their very own movie and become stars. They head to Hollywood for the glitzy dream and from there, thi gs get really interesting. It gets even more complicated when a villain plans to take over the world.
