Movie Mix September 7: A Genre Party

Up first is the supernatural film horror film, “It,” that terrified generations of children when it was first featured in cinemas. This movie is intended to be the first installment of the talked-about duology.  The film based on Stephen King’s novel is about seven children who are tormented by “It”, other wise known as “Pennywise the Dancing Clown” or “Bob Gray.” He preys upon the children of Derry, Maine which explains why kids disappear one after another, only to be found dead. In the novel, Pennywise shows up every twenty-seven years, unnoticed by adults, and uses his shapeshifting powers to manipulate minds of people, specially children. Interestingly enough, Stephen King said that he came up with Pennywise because clowns are what children are most terrified of. The remake stars Bill Skarsgard (It/Pennywise), Jaeden Lieberher (Bill), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Ben), Sophia Lillis (Bev), Finn Wolfhard (Richie), Wyatt Oleff (Stan), Chosen Jacobs (Mike), and Jack Dylan Grazer (Eddie) among others.

A team of Navy SEALS are on assignment in “Renegades.” The team behind “The Equalizer” and the “Taken” trilogy is the same team that produced “Renegades.” It is about a group of SEALs who are sent on a mission in war-torn Europe and discover an underwater treasure found in a Bosnian lake that can significantly help the locals. The team decides on the heist worth hundreds of millions of dollars but get into a rough turn of events. J.K. Simmons, Ewen Bremmer, Sylvia Hoeks, Sullivan Stapleton, Dimitri Leonidas, Charlie Bewley, Diarmaid Murtagh, and Clemens Schick star in the film.

Teen Dance Royalties Ella Cruz and Julian Trono star in “FanGirl, FanBoy.” The romantic comedy released by Viva Films in cooperation with N2Productions is directed by Barry Gonzales. It is also a production of Joyce Bernal. Ella plays the role of “Aimee,” a film dubber who is just such a die hard fan of “Oli” played by Trono. Oli is a frustrated actor striving hard to make it in showbiz. With one chasing after his dream, and another chasing after the dreamer, how the story ends will surely be interesting.

Sui Ishida’s manga series, “Tokyo Ghoul” gets turned into a live-action dark fantasy action horror film. Tokyo Ghoul is about Ken Kaneki a regular collegian who is attacked by his date, Rize Kamishiro. Little did he know, Rize is a ghoul. Ghouls are individuals who can only survive by eating human flesh and live among normal humans in secret to evade authorities. After Rize attacked Ken, he was brought to the hospital and went through surgery that turned him into a half-ghoul by transferring Rize’s organs into his body. He now has to adapt into the ghoul society and survive by all means. The lead roles are played by Masataka Kubota (Ken) and Yū Aoi (Rize).

Two estranged sisters try to save their brother by robbing a bank in “The Vault.” James Franco, Taryn Manning, Francesca Eastwood, and Scott Haze star in this film about a needed heist. What seemed to be the usual robbery turns mysterious and violent when the old vault was opened unleashing a dark force. The sisters find out that the bank fell victim to a masked robber who murdered all the hostages by burning them alive in that same vault in the 1980’s. How, then, will they survive this one?
