Makati, Porn

Citizens of Makati watched a pornographic show via a billboard on Wednesday. A LED screen on top of an executive building broadcasted a 33-second video of explicit content. Makati Mayor Abigail Binay asked the operator of the billboard to take down the said video in an instant.

The building was at the corner of Makati Avenue and Gil Puyat Avenue. Amidst the traffic jam was a show that only a few have captured.

Makati billboard operator ‘hacked?’

Facebook video uploader Mulong Sermonia captured the incident. He said that he noticed a different video playing on the billboard. As his instinct, he got his cell phone and recorded the incident. Sermonia says that most people at that time did not care about what the billboard was flashing. But also some motorists pulled up to capture the moment.

Sermonia, who happens to be an information technology expert, says that the fault might be of the operator. An application called Team Viewer monitors a remote computer. The operator might have monitored the wrong computer which is playing porn at that time.

Globaltronics, the company assigned to maintain the billboard, says that it was a momentary issue as reported by ABS-CBN. Mayor Abigail Binay said that the company and the management of the building will work with them so that the incident won’t happen again.

Chief Operating Officer Joseph Evangelista said in a statement that his company is pushing to fight against cybercrime because of the incident. As of press writing, the billboard remains closed as results of the operation are still pending.

It’s not only in the Philippines that this happened. In other countries like China and Indonesia, technology also failed its users. CNN says that in Indonesia, Jakarta police arrested a man claiming responsibility for playing porn on a billboard. The police identified the suspect with his initials S.A.R. is a 24-year-old IT. They arrested him in his office in 2016.

In China, workers testing a billboard on top of a mall left their laptop playing. Metro says while the laptop was on autoplay, a video of a woman stripping flashed before the busy Chinese district.

As of press writing, the netizens flagged the original video from Mulong Sermonia. But screengrabs of the moment went viral on social media. See it for yourself here via PhilStar Ngayon.
