The singer behind the viral song Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen (PPAP), Pikotaro, has a new role to play. No less than Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approached the singer to perform a new version of the PPAP song at the United Nations (UN) in New York. The new version incorporates the promotion of sustainable development goals as set by the UN.

According to Vanguard Daily, Minister Fumio Kishida invited Pikotaro, who is known in real life as comedian Daimaou Kosaka, to join the forum on SDGs in mid-July at the UN Headquarters.

Singer Releases New Version Of PPAP

On July 6, Pikotaro released the SDGs version of his viral song. The song is still under 1 minute and makes use of the words Public-Private Action for Partnership. In the video, he also appears in his signature animal print outfit and churns out his signature dance moves.

He gladly accepted the new role, saying that he wants to do his part in promoting SDGs. When it comes to the new song, he said it is “something easy to encourage people to watch and follow.”

For Minister Kishida, the singer’s popularity is what the Japanese government and the UN needs to popularize its advocacies. The original PPAP song entered the Billboard Top 100 last year and is considered to be the shortest song to hit the charts.

Pikotaro Continues To Be Popular In Japan

Although the singer can be considered a one-hit wonder, he still remains to be popular among the masses especially in Japan. According to an Inquirer report, the singer is set to appear in his very own TV anime show soon.

The series is entitled Pikotaro no Rarabai Raarabai (Pikotaro’s Lullaby Luuullaby) and will reportedly feature the singer’s fairy tale dreams. According to the report, all the characters will be voiced by the singer-comedian.
