Recess Resto Cafe, Baguio City

You know that a restaurant or café is successful if they keep on churning out new entries on their menu. Well if that’s the case, then RECESS Resto Café in Session Road, Baguio City must be reaching for the stars. Just a little over a month after we did a review on the place, RECESS is at it again by introducing new dishes guaranteed to satisfy your need for a gastronomic break.

Open 24/7, RECESS Resto Café offers an upgraded take on the normal dishes that you’d while chilling with your friends or workmates. It’s a hip place for you to take a breather and just unplug from whatever it is that’s making you go insane. Located smack dab on the busiest road in Baguio, it’s a place that literally screams for you to drop everything and indulge in a well-deserved recess from that stressful activity. That being said, if you’re looking for a place that offers new stuff, you’re lucky because of the newest dishes and drinks that RECESS has in their entreé.

What’s new on RECESS Resto Café’s menu?

Of course, I came to the place wondering how in the world they came up with things to put on the menu so fast. Let me start by giving you a rundown of RECESS Resto Café newest drinks. These drinks, IMHO, are one of the best ones you can drink alcohol-free. We’ve got the Cotton Candy Frappe, a fresh spin on the usual coffee frappe that most kids and young adults today go crazy over. It’s served with a HUGE ball (chunk? piece? web?) of cotton candy. The best way to drink this one is to sip and eat—or I don’t know, you do you.

The Matcha KitKat Shake is something that’s sure to make the matcha lover in you erupt in joy. The cream is sprinkled with Matcha dust (let’s call it that from now on) and topped with a bar of Matcha KitKat! Next up is the Oreo Shake, something that makes you forget about the deadline at school or at work. It’s topped with a special syrup and an Oreo cookie. Wrapping the drink roulette is the Vanilla Milkshake and Strawberry Milkshake, in which both are infused with an overbearing sense of delight and satisfaction. I recommend that you guys come to RECESS Resto Café thirsty so you’d experience the pleasure these drinks offer.

And now comes the amazing new dishes that the insane kitchen crew of RECESS Resto Café prepared for us that day. It’s a totally new experience trying these dishes out. The first time we went in for a review blew us away. Now, I was simply stuck in a food trance (coma sounds mundane). The Asian Tacos is something that every taco lover would go crazy about. The taco shell is made up of fried seaweed, with rice and fresh sashimi thrown into the mix. They also have one with shrimp!

As for the Frutti Di Mare Pizza, this is something that you’d have to look forward to. It looks and feels like a normal pizza at first, but it’s actually loaded with fresh seafood toppings. It’s a perfect dish for people looking for a different kind of Pizza-eating experience. It’s not that rich, and that makes it the best thing to have for a rather quaint day. Imagine yourself eating this by the beach, ’cause that’s exactly how this feels like.

For chicken lovers, RECESS Resto Café has the Southern Style Fried Chicken that’s so juicy, you couldn’t resist breaking your diet. It’s also doused with a special cream sauce with mushroom, making it another twist that you’d welcome with open arms. Best eaten with mashed potatoes instead of rice.

The Sizzling Sillet is best served with beer. It’s a typical pulutan dish made up of pork intestines that separates itself with its aroma and flavor. It’s friend and doused with a special sauce that makes you want to pack up and take this thing with you on a park n’ shot escapade.

But the ultimate winner of RECESS Resto Café’s new dishes is the Shrimp and Crab Paste Pasta. I don’t usually like to eat seafood pasta, but this could very well be a huge exception. The crab paste is a homemade masterpiece from Bataan, seasoned with olives and shrimp. I had to fight for the last serving because of how bad we all wanted it. Seriously, this should be the first thing you should ask for once you come in.

As for the new desserts, you can choose from their newest entries—the Chocolate Smores PancakeTiramisu, and the Bavarian Meringue.

Overall Verdict

As we’ve mentioned before, RECESS Resto Café is a place where you can kill time, take your mind off things, bust off some stress, or impress a certain someone. And with the added entries on their menu, you won’t have to stop and think of what to order, because everything is made to make your heart melt—even if you don’t ask for it.
