Red Velvet, KPop, North Korea

After performing on the Olympic stage, Korean idols will be part of another milestone in Korean history. Red Velvet, Cho Yong-Pil, and Lee Sun-hee will be performers on a North Korean stage. The chosen South Korean idols will visit Pyongyang from March 31 to April 1. KPop is indeed coming to North Korea.

In the 2018 Winter Olympics held in Pyeongchang, South Korean artists gave a taste of KPop to its audience. A variety of artists including CL and Ailee. More have given time for the visitors to witness such a memorable event.

 

Red Velvet, Girls Generation and more KPop in North Korea

 

South Korea says that the decision is a reciprocation. In the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, North Korea sent performers to entertain the audience in South Korea. This time, South Korea would want to do the same. According to a press release as reported by Naver, there will be a total of 160 art troupes that will attend the said event.

 

This is the first time that a South Korean group will perform in North Korea. The last performance was in 2005. It was Baby VOX, the last girl group that performed from North Korea. “We are honored and happy to attend a meaningful event,” Red Velvet said. “As it is our first time performing in Pyongyang, we are looking forward to it. We will prepare well to showcase great performances,” they added.

 

The groups and acts will perform for four days in different locations in Pyongyang. It will be at the Grand Theater and the Ryu Gyung Chung Ju Young Gymnasium.

 

As the show’s director, singer and producer Yoon Sang leads the delegation. In a media briefing, he stated that they will do a visitation from March 22-24. It is the first step into ensuring that the venues will accommodate all the participants. The songs they are performing are still under deliberation.

 

The lineup of artists performing in North Korea includes Cho Yong Pil, Lee Sun Hee, Yoon Do Hyun, Baek Ji Young, Jung In, Ali, Red Velvet, and Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun.
