Gomez’s name wasn’t the only one mentioned. Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petiilla, Leyte 3rd District Rep. Vicente Veloso and Baybay City Vice Mayor Michael Cari were allegedly part of the group was well. Richard Gomez, Part Of Espinosa Drug Group Chief Inspector Leo Laraga of the Criminal Investigation Detection Group (CIDG) led the team that raided the cell of the late Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. During the Senate hearing, Chief Inspector mentioned names of several high-ranking government officials including Richard Gomez. Gomez was not inlcuded in Mayor Espinosa’s affidavit before the albuera police. When Senator Vicente Sotto III asked if this was based on ther information, Laraga said, “That was the statement of Mayor Espinosa himself.”Laraga said the CIDG team had to apply for a search warrant in Samar because of personalities involved. Leyte Governor and Leyte Representative both denied allegations. Richard Gomez Responds To Allegations, ‘That’s Ridiculous’ In a text statement Mayor Gomez released to ABS-CBN, he said that allegations are ‘ridiculous.’ He said, “That is ridiculous and outright laughable. I will not even dignify that with an answer huwag nila akong isama sa circus nila!” Richard Gomez posted a rant on Facebook on October 16 about how police are “crooks.” Gomez mentioned how police themselves are making up stories to meddle with the situation.
