These trees were supposed to bear flowers in the next five years but have started coloring the park early March. Farmer Edward Haight and Japanese Hirmo Yoshikawa established the Benguet-Kochi Sisterhood Park in June 2016 at Paoay, Atok. Thirty Sakura trees were planted then and Japanese experts say they would start bearing flowers in three to five years. But in just nine months, they’ve already started to bear flowers according to the Baguio Midland Courier, Tourists visit Sakura Park in Atok Benguet A Japanese expert came to visit the trees according to the caretaker of the Sakura park, Edward Haight. The expert said one tree had a combination of purple, violet, and white flowers which showed 100 percent survival rate in Paoay. As soon as news spread about the Sakura trees blooming with flowers, tourists and locals alike dropped by the Sakura Park before the Holy Week as stated in the report. The park is just around 1.6 kilometers away from Halsema Highway and around 54 kilometers away from Baguio City. Soon, Paoay will become a tourist destination. Haight said that the Barangay Tourism Council of Paoay has already been organized and the municipal government is already coordinating with different agencies to prepare the municipality. Some residents are even planning on improving structures to have accommodation facilities in preparation for the influx of tourists that may flood the municipality because of the Sakura Park.
