Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

Samsung has just launched its new Galaxy S8 smartphones on Wednesday, March 29, in New Nork City.  Two versions were unveiled during the launch: Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The Galaxy S8 smartphones come after the Note 7 fiasco in October last year.

On March 29, Samsung Mobile posted the advertisement of the new Galaxy S8 via Twitter which can be viewed below. Since it’s posting, it’s had 7,000 likes and around 300 comments from netizens. Some excited and some still worry if the product will “blow up like the previous one.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus Specs, Highlights

1. Invisible But Accessible Home Button

TheGalaxy S8 flagship phones have navigation keys that are no different from the usual physical ones. Samsung calls it more “inconspicuous” and appears only when you need them. It works with just a simple press.

2. New Virtual Assistant, Bixby

The personal assistant Bixby is one of the features that make the Galaxy S8 smartphones more interactive. A user can use voice, text, or touch to say what a user needs. The best part, a user can just open the camera and Bixby will do the work. No more typing, just “call up Bixby.”

Bixby will understand instruction in US English, US Spanish, Korean and Chinese.

3. Infinity Display and Camera

Samsung boasts of the infinity display feature. The end-to-end screen that “spills” over the phone’s sides. The Galaxy S8 comes with a 6.2 inch display screen while the Galaxy S8 comes with a 6.2 inch display. The screen resolution is Full HD+ and can be changed to Quad HD+ (WQHD+) in Settings.

The smartphones come with a with a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. When taking selfies, the Smart Auto Focus tracks faces and makes sure everyone will be in focus.

4. New security features: iris scanning, face recognition, fingerprint sensor

The Galaxy S8 smartphones come with a Security that’s “foolproof.” The iris scanning feature allows your phone to open only by scanning the user’s eyes. Authentication is close to being almost 100% accurate since the patterns of a person’s irises are unique and are virtually impossible to replicate.

If this could be too tasking for the user, the face recognition feature comes handy. The fingerprint sensor is still in place but the sensor is now located at the back of the phone and unlocks with one seamless move.

5. New battery safety measures

Samsung has done changes to its battery which is based on much research since the Samsung Note 7. The tech giant has recently identified battery problems from two suppliers .

In a report by Yahoo Tech, it said it has an eight-point safety check protocol which includes x-raying the batteries. Lewis Larsen, president of Chicago-based battery technology consultancy Lattice Energy LLC says, “The additional measures Samsung has taken should certainly improve battery safety and durability.”

The units come in midnight black, orchid gray, coral blue, arctic Silver and Maple gold.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ Release Date and Price in the Philippines

The new smartphones will go on sale on April 21 in the US but will be available on May 5 in the Philippines. The Galaxy S8 is priced at P 39,990 and the Galaxy S8+ us priced at P 45,990.
