Malacanang recently announced the official list of national holidays for the coming year and it includes seven (yes, seven!) long weekends. According to Proclamation 50 that was signed last August 16, there will be 17 regular and special non-working holidays in 2017. This does not yet include the Muslim holidays of Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha because these will be announced later in accordance to the actual dates in the Islamic calendar. The three-day weekends will start during the Lenten Season, which falls in April (April 13-16), then continue in May for Labor Day (April 29-May 1). In June, the Independence Day celebration will extend to three days as well because June 12 falls on a Monday (June 10-12). Come August, there will be two long weekends (August 19-21 & August 26-28), because Ninoy Aquino Day (August 21) and National Heroes Day (August 28) are both on a Monday. The next set of long weekends will take place during the Christmas and New Year holidays, with December 25 on a Monday, followed by December 30 on a Saturday, December 31 on a Sunday and January 1, 2018 on a Monday. Folks who are looking forward to some time off from work and school can now plan their vacation leaves as well as save up on their dream vacations. Most airline companies will likely post airfare deals soon, anticipating people wanting to buy their tickets ahead of time. Online shopping and deals websites will also taking advantage of these holidays in their travel and hotel deals. If you are the type of person who wants to plan ahead, start watching out for deals online. Time to sign up for email notifications on flight sales and travel deals, if you have not done so yet.
