Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo

Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo continue to make headlines especially now that they’ve confirmed the venue for their upcoming wedding. The Song-Song couple is due to tie the knot at one of South Korea’s most luxurious wedding venues, the Shilla Hotel. Here’s what we know about it and what we think you should know too.

Since the Descendants of the Sun actors’ sudden wedding announcement in July, fans and the press continue to dig into more details about them. Song Joong Ki has been more kind to the media and more open to fans sharing updates on how they are preparing for their wedding. He even treated fans with info on who he was to fiance Song Hye Kyo even before they knew each other. Apparently, Song Joong Ki was a die hard fan of Song Hye Kyo before they worked together and before they became a couple. The two are getting married on October 31 at the Shilla hotel as reported by HelloKPop.

According to the report, Song Joong Ki’s agency released an official statement saying the Song-Song couple chose the Shilla Hotel for their venue. Other details like time, host and singers are still being discussed. So what is so special about the Shillah Hotel? Here are three things we know.

For starters, the Shilla Hotel located in Seoul is a member of the Leading Hotel of the World. It was founded by Lee Byung-chull, founder of the Samsung Group. It is most preferred and appreciated by dignitaries, heads of state, CEOS and of course, celebrities. They are well known for their elegance and cutting-edge technology. The interior is designed by Peter Remedios. Peter has done work with high profile hotels like Hyatt International, Aman Resorts, Westin, Hilton and more across Asia, Middle East, US, and Europe.

Shilla Hotel is a member of the Fine Hotel and Resorts and its Restaurant La Yeon is the first to be awarded 3-Michelin Stars in Korea.

Second, this hotel is where some of the biggest celebrity weddings took place. According to Soompi, this is where actor Kwon Sang Woo and former Miss Korea Son Tae Young tied the knot. They got married in 2008 while starring in TV drama “Bad Love.” In 2011, actor Yoo Ji Tae and Kim Hyo Jon also got married at this luxurious hotel, in 2010, “Love, Wind Love Song” co stars Jang Dong Gun and Ko So Young, and in 2008 Nation’s MC Yoo Jae Sik and announcer Na Kyung Eun as well.

In 2012, Jun Ji-Hyun, known as Gianna Jun of “My Sassy Girl” also got married to Choi Joon Hyuk in 2012 also at Shilla Hotel. A list of big time celebrities and the Song-Song couple will soon be an addition to that.

Third, it is crazy expensive. When you see the words luxurious, elegant and big time celebs, one would immediately conclude that it is almost impossible to book this for a wedding for let’s say, regular people. To give you an overview, staying for one night in a standard room would cost KRW 250,000 or around PHP 11,000 if booking through their website. According to Koreaboo, Jun Ji-Hyun and Choi Joon Hyuk’s wedding at the hotel in 2012 cost over USD 100,000 or around PHP 5,000,000, and that was in 2012! Do the math.

Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo could not have chosen a better venue for their wedding in October. Knowing big celebs tied the knot in thesame venue and looking at the hotels’ profile, it definitely is a venue for a dreamy wedding. And we all know Song-Song couple’s story, a fantasy indeed.
