Apparently, the hit movie Star Wars will be part of Ateneo’s theology class on its first semester of School Year 2017-2018. The department is calling the class “Finding God in the Dark: Cinema and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignacius of Loyola.” It started when ADMU theology professor Miko Galvez introduced “Star Wars” movie to colleague Stephanie Puen. A report by the Inquirer says after Stephanie watched the epic movie and series, she realized it had a lot of potential most especially “how the characters handled complex situations.” Puen remembered telling Galvez, “We should make a class out of this!.” The professors then proposed the “Star Wars” class along with others like “The Chronicles Of Narnia,” and “The Lord of the Rings.” Star Wars class at the Ateneo de Manila University According to ADMU Theology Department’s post, the course examines the elements of the Star Wars Universe namely: the Force, the Jedi coe, the Sith code, and Jeni Trials. It also explores the characters in the movie like Skywalkers, Obi-Wan, and events like the Clone Wars, the Rebel Alliance and the Resistance. All this in the perspective of theology and Ignatian Spirituality in particular. A note regarding the learner’s knowledge about the movie was included in the post. It said students didn’t have to have in depth knowledge of the movies. However, knowing a bit about it wouldn’t hurt. It assured students taking the class that other elements will be incorporated along the way. A teaser of the Star Wars themed theology class of the Ateneo de Manila University was posted on Facebook on Thursday. Since then, it’s had 11k views and around 200 shares. Being one with the Force in school? One heck of a dream. Facebook Comments
