May The Fourth Be With You, It’s Star Wars Day

“Star Wars” fans all over the globe are celebrating Star Wars Day. Yes, you read it right. Star Wars Day. For those of you who didn’t know it existed, we’re telling you it does. Apparently, on the fourth of May, fans all over take a day of the year to bring out their geeky “Star Wars” side.

First things first, creator George Lucas or Lucasfilm had nothing to do with this day. Fans worldwide took it upon themselves to dedicate this day to Jedis, lightsabers, Skywalkers, and Yoda’s words. Quick trivia, the Walt Disney Company which bought the rights to Star Wars and Lucasfilm in 2012 hosts celebrations in Disneyland and Walk Disney World theme parks according to The Sun.

How fans celebrate Star Wars Day

“May the fourth be with you” is a greeting fans will be saying everywhere especially on social media. It makes a lot of sense since it is the month of May and it falls on the fourth of the month, in case you didn’t catch that. Also, it is a play on words using the famous phrase, “May the force be with you” from the franchise which actually makes it more interesting. The phrase has been on Twitter’s second trending topic with around 37k tweets on May 4.

Any “Star Wars” fan geek would know Star Wars Day. Enthusiasts celebrate it differently of course. Here are some of the ways fans celebrate Star Wars Day.

1. Watch the whole “Star Wars” franchise. A day equals 24 hours. A lot of people take advantage of this time to watch the whole franchise from first to last or whichever order they want.

2. Read the comics. Some actually prefer reading the comics. And if crazy enough do both at the same time. It’s Star Wars Day, no one can stop you.

3. Donate money for a cause. Actor Mark Hamil is the perfect example. In 2016, Mark played the role of Luke Skywalker. On Star Wars Day, he encouraged fans to donate money for children’s hospitals. They called it the “Force For Change.”

4. Buy Star Wars Trading Cards. This year marks Star Wars 40th anniversary. On Twitter, ads are popping up about buying Star Wars Cards or hobby boxes.

There are a lot of creative ways to celebrate Star Wars Day. Go crazy with costume parties, forums, build models, or simply meet with fellow Star Wars geeks and see where it takes you. Whatever you do, to you we say, “May the fourth be with you.”

Disney has just released the trailer of “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” which is set to hit theaters in December.
