It is literally less than a week before Christmas Eve and beyond the exchange gifts, cinema buffs everywhere (most specially die hard Star Wars fans) are just going ga-ga about Star Wars The Last Jedi out in cinemas this week. The film will run for more than a week for sure. The return of Luke Skywalker, General Leia Organa, Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn, and Poe Dameron will get all the eager beavers the ultimate Christmas treat for the year 2017. Since the first Star Wars film in 1977 until this day, 40 years later, the brilliance of George Lucas’ creative mind is simply beyond awesome.
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is the second film to the Star Wars sequel trilogy after 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” In over four decades Lucasfilm has mesmerized generations with the release of “Star Wars” (1977), “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980), “Return of the Jedi” (1983), “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” (1999), “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” (2002), “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” (2005), and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in 2015. So, for every Browncoat and self-proclaimed Jedi knight, this one is for you. Here are 5 things to know about “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” (Don’t worry, no spoilers here!)
‘Star Wars The Last Jedi’, 5 Things To Know
1. In “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Luke Skywalker is hesitant to teach the ways of the Force because of past failures. The film is a revelation of sorts. Luke refuses to teach Rey because of his failures as a Jedi Master, especially when it comes to Kylo Ren who was swayed towards the dark side of the force. This along with other secrets led Luke to live the life of a hermit until Rey finds him. In the film, Luke sees the ghost of Yoda, which is a pivotal moment for Luke.
2. The film is dedicated to the memory of Carrie Fisher who died in December 2016. She made her final appearance in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Carrie also worked in the script’s re-writes. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said that the performance Carrie Fisher gave as General Leia Organa in this film will make fans everywhere feel emotional. In her own words she said, “The performance she ends up giving, you guys are going to find that an amazing tribute to her talent.”
3. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” introduces a new character, a mechanic named Rose Tico. Just Jared reveals that 28-year-old Kelly Marie Tran breaks out in her role as Rose Tico, one of the heroes in the film. She is the first Asian-American woman to star in a Star Wars movie. Rose Tico is a mechanic who is an active fighter in General Leia Organa’s Resistance. She and Finn team up in the film to thwart the enemies plights.
4. John Williams who composed the musical score for all seven films will do the same for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” You just cannot have a great film without a great soundtrack. John Williams has been THE man behind the musical score to all the Star Wars films. His craftsmanship is so superb that anyone will know for sure that Vader is coming out with the famed first nine notes that always precedes anything about the Dark Force. Not to mention, the opening track for every Star Wars film made famous by its unforgettable opening crawl, “In a galaxy, far, far, away…” Williams began recording the score for “The Last Jedi” in December 2016 and confirmation of its recording was announced in February 2017.
5. If “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” made BB-8 famous, “The Last Jedi” will make everyone fall in love with Porgs. They now have their own mini-game called, “Porg Invasion.” This adorable stoic character doesn’t make Chewbacca’s as happy, but how adorable they are is undeniable. According to The Verge, the mini-game allows gamers to be put “in the Wookiee pilot’s shoes,” with BB-8 as the primary playable character, as you stave off a porg onslaught on the Millenium Falcon.” Everyone will definitely know you’re a Star Wars fan if you’re seen playing this with friends through Instant Games, available within Facebook Messenger or the News Feed on desktop.
There you have it! If you’re not convinced to hit the theaters yet, well, then at least we tried. Nothing beats generations of thrills with all the Star Wars films.
