Supergirl aimed for a strong mid-season finale with both a (temporary) fix to the Cadmus arc. More noticeably however, it aimed to start the long-anticipated “Invasion!” CW crossover.

Supergirl “Medusa”: Thanksgiving With Supergirl

The episode opens up with a Thanksgiving meal between Kara (Melissa Benoit), her mother Eliza (Helen Slater), Alex (Chyler Leigh), Winn (Jeremy Jordan), Mon-El (Chris Wood), and James (Mehcad Brooks). Mon-El arrives with flowers and the stuffing from a mattress “for Thanksgiving.” He flirts with Eliza, and the latter says that Mon-El is actually interested in Kara.

The meal is interrupted when a dimensional rift opens up right over their dinner table. The rift vanishes as quickly as it appears.

Cadmus And Project Medusa

Mon-El hangs out at the alien bar. Another alien attempts to flirt with him, but Mon-El rejects her advances. He mistakes Cyborg Superman (David Harewood) for J’onn J’onnz, and follows him outside, where a fight ensues. Meanwhile, a gas charge goes off inside the bar, killing all extraterrestrials. All human lives are spared the biological attack.

Mon-El is taken into DEO custody until they can figure out what kind of biological agent he was exposed to. He initially seems fine, but he later falls unconscious. It is revealed that the bio-weapon unleashed at the bar was in fact, the Medusa virus; developed by Kara’s Kryptonian father. He claims it was meant to save Kryptonian lives. However, Kara feels hurt that her family legacy is one of biological warfrare.

Alex Comes Out

Alex finally comes to grips with her sexuality. She first opens up to her mother. Alex is surprised that her mother is more accepting of her than Alex herself originally was. Alex later confronts Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima). They come to terms about how they feel for each other, and Maggie eventually chooses to visit Alex at her place.

Lena Luthor and Cadmus’ Downfall

Lillian Luthor (Brenda Strong) sends Cyborg Superman to obtain an isotope from L-Corp that will help stabilize the Medusa Virus. The attack is thwarted by Supergirl. The attack confirms Lena Luthor’s (Katie McGrath) suspicions that her mother is the leader of Cadmus. She calls her mother to present her with a batch of the isotope.

Cadmus announces that the end of extraterrestrials is at hand. Lena Luthor herself launches the missile containing Medusa into the atmosphere. Supergirl flies off in an attempt to stop it. Meanwhile, J’onn and Cyborg Superman come face to face. J’onn is initially overpowered, but he gives in to his White Martian blood cells, and he defeats Cyborg Superman. As the missile detonates in the air, it is revealed that Lena had set a trap for her mother, giving her a false isotope that rendered the virus inert. Lillian is arrested, and all alien lives are saved.

Mon-El’s Feelings for Kara; “Invasion!” Begins

Mon-El spends much of the episode unconscious from the first Medusa attack. While in recovery, he mentions to Kara how beautiful she is, and then he kisses her. When he recovers however, he appears to have no memory of the incident.

Barry and Cisco teleporting into Kara’s household. They mention how they took a couple of tries to get to her. Barry asks her if she remembers her promise to help him in return, to which she responds with: “What are we up against?”

Meanwhile, a mysterious alien ship is revealed to the audience. A feminine alien orders her subordinate to search for a Kryptonian pod. She mentions that “Mon-El Daxom must be found.”
