POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG: Two more wins and three-time defending champion Raymundo Alvarez makes it to the semifinals. On Tawag Ng Tanghalan Aug 17 episode, Raymundo fights for that win that would take him another step closer to becoming the next semi-finalist. Yesterday, this contender form Mindanao won over daily winner Wilmer Abalos singing, “Dance With My Father.” Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode. Tawag Ng Tanghalan Aug 17 performances, daily winner, and champion

First contender, John Dionel Marte. John looks up to his father who is also a singer. He used to join singing contests back in the day and was even able to compete with Philippine Song Bird Regine Velasquez. John’s dad taught him everything he knew and he now takes the stage singing “Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika” by Ryan Cayabyab. John is a singer for events and a promoter of a videoke product. He hopes winning this competition would help him provide a home for his parents and soon to be mother of his child.

Judge Karylle said John had good rhythm and loved how pleasant he was on stage. His confidence was a also a plus. Showmanship was also something he had says K Brosas. She added he was very entertaining and had the energy that was very contagious and made his performance very lively.

Second contender, Wilfredo Camitoc. Wilfredo is security guard singer from Cavite. He worked in the Philippines and in Dubai for around 11 years. Wilfredo joined TNT once before in April 2016. Nothing will stop him from pursuing his dreams and so he returns to the TNT stage singing “Honesty,” by Billy Joel.

Head judge Louie Ocampo said Wilfredo’s notes were spot and said he loved the timber of his voice. He also had a good connection with the audience. All in all, he was very happy with his performance.

Third contender, Rocelle Solquillo. Rocelle also joined TNT before in August 2016. She became a defending champion but unfortunately, Christopher  Rodrigueza stole the golden microphone from her. Her brother is also a musician. They both dream of making it big in the music industry soon. This time, she hopes singing “Fly Me To The Moon,” would bring her all the way as a defending champion and soon a semifinalist.

The judges seem to enjoy Rocelle’s performance as they danced to the beat of her song. Judge Yeng and K Brosas both stood up and gave her a standing ovation as soon as Rocelle belted out that last note. Judge Yeng was really happy with her performance. She called her voice very current and said she was very amazed and said for her that was rare. Guest judge Sitti said she was so in love with her voice and said she was really good. She showed mastery over vocal chords says Sitti. On a side note, she and Sitti did a duet of the same song.

TNT Aug 17 daily winner, face-off, and champion. Thursday winner who will face three-time defending champion Raymundo Alvarez winning with an avergae score of 95.2 percent is Rocelle Solquillo.

For the face-off Rocelle Solquillo sang “Purple Rain” by Prince. The judges, most especially Yeng, were just in awe as Rocelle belted out those vocal riffs. K Brosas was just stunned as Rocelle sang that last note. Defending champion Raymundo sang John Legend’s “All Of Me.” He made sure he did his best singing those notes with much precision and much emotion. Judge Yeng couldn’t resist but also stand up to give a standing ovation for Raymundo. Will he succeed? Or has he met his match.

The judges have a very difficult decision to make. Two equally talented contenders who sang almost the same genre. Who wins this face-off?

The judges have made their decision. Today’s champion garnering an average score of 96.2 percent is-Rocelle Solquillo. This ends Raymundo’s three streak win.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs Mondays to Saturdays on It’s Showtime via ABS-CBN at noon.
