Tawag ng Tanghalan, Lalainne Araña

POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG: Lalainne Araña is one step away from making it to Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s semi-finals. On yesterday’s episode, Lalainne beat daily winner Erika “Akie” Cedilla. Akie sang “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You,” while Lalainne sang “Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin.” Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode. On Tawag Ng Tanghalan August 1 episode, Lalainne fights for that win which will automatically bring her to the semifinals.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan August 1 Performances, daily winner, and champion

First contender, Khevin Almario. Khevin is a college student taking up music major in voice at the age of 33. He had to stop school since his father died of a kidney failure 11 years ago. He worked as a barista and a call center agent. Now, he’s a choir master in church and plays piano for them as well. Khevin decides to chase a dream he has been wanting to chase for many years. He takes the TNT stage singing “The Last Time” by Eric Benet hoping to impress the judges.

Judge Karylle called Khevin’s performance a welcome change on the show, something different. She says it was a great performance and said his voice is something that she and the audience will remember. Judge Nyoy said Khevin understood music very well and it reflected in his performance.

Second contender, Julia Robert Bondos. Julia Robert’s name has always been linked to famous actress Julia Roberts. Her mother’s favorite actress is Julia Roberts while her biological father’s name is Robert. This singer from Bulacan dreams to become famous not because of her name but because of her voice. She hopes that singing “Paalam Na” would prove that she has what it takes to make it.  Julia makes her own songs and uploads them on YouTube. If not singing, she designs, sketches and makes her own clothing line and sells them online. Julia was a bit nervous from the get go. The question is, was Rey Valera satisfied?

Head judge Rey Valera noticed her first notes were shake-y. He also noticed she had difficulty breathing which affected the volume of her voice. Good thing he didn’t signal for the gong.

Third contender, Anne Jo Rufa. Anne Jo is originally from Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. Her dad is a garbage collector while her mom a house maid. She knew she had to do something so she went to Bacolod and worked as a cleaner, cashier, and waitress but it wasn’t enough for her family. She decided to go to Manila and try her luck there working as a call center agent. Since then, she’s been working every single day for her family. It’s her father’s dream for Anne to join TNT and now that she made it, she gives her best singing “Help Me Get Over” for her, her dad, and her family.

Judge Jaya said Anne’s performance was just ok. Not that impressive because of the key which was too low for her range. Judge Jed Madela said Anne’s performance was full of emotion but it was also because of that that she wasn’t able to sing to her full potential.

TNT August 1 daily winner, face-off, and champion. Three contenders and now it is down to one daily winner. TNT Tuesday winner garnering an average score of 92.2 percent is contender from Metro Manila, Khevin Almario.

It is Khevin vs Lalainne. Khevin sang “You” by Basil Valdez while four-time defending champion Lalaine Araña sang “Luha” by Aegis.

A very critical battle since this win takes Lalainne to the semis. The judges have decided. Tawag ng Tanghalan August 1 champion winning with an average score of 95 percent is Lalainne Araña.

Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs Mondays to Fridays on ABS-CBN It’s Showtime at noon.
