Today, semi-finalists John Mark Saga, Jovany Satera, Alfred Relatado, and Aila Santos will be singing Fight Songs promising powerful renditions on the stage.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan August 11 performances, Fight Song
Jovany Satera’s Fight song is “Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley. He says that being a disc jockey and singer on stage helped him come out of his box. As DJ Durian, Jovany gives advise to the heartbroken and to those who are having problems with love. Ironically, however, if he has a problem he would rather sit by a corner and reflect upon his demise. This is why the song “Hound Dog” is most real to him. He feels that the hound dog is like him – quiet but sweet. Whenever this happens he puts himself back on track by thinking that true success is defeating his own weaknesses.
Of the things Jovany would like to fulfill is to finish a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He is unable to do so because his parents could not afford it. As a way to encourage Jovany, “Tawag ng Tanghalan sa Showtime” surprised him by bringing his mother and his younger brother on stage. They have not seen each other in a long time.
Judge Ogie Alcasid describes Jovany as a crowd-pleaser. He is able to bring back the glory days of the classics and he does really well at it. Judge Louie Ocampo, on the other hand, also says that Jovany is a natural performer who. As constructive criticism, Judge Louie tells Jovany to take his time, especially when the song’s tempo is fast. He has to get into the rhythm of the song.
Alfred Relatado sings his fight song “Yesterday” by the Beatles. As a fisherman, Alfred would sing his heart out to the sea. If at that time in the past, only the fish are able to hear his song, today, the world can now hear him sing. This is one dream that he is thankful to have fulfilled. Over the phone, Alfred speaks with his father. But then, to Alfred’s surprise, his father then shows up with his uncle. This instantly brought tears to Alfred’s eyes. He then discloses that he had a conflict with his father so seeing him today makes it very meaningful.
Judge Rico J. Puno admires how relaxed Alfred is in his performance. Another thing he pointed out how controlled his voice and how consistent his tone is. He is also able to bring out his emotions effectively.
Aila Santos’ Fight Song is “Alone” by Heart. As a vocalist in her band, she would suffer from fatigue and exhaustion. It became difficult for her to live through such routine. But when she met, Jopeth, her band’s guitarist who is now her partner, she felt that she can live through everyday without any problem. She found a sense of home in him and their daughter. Today, she is a stronger woman because of him. She dedicates her song to her partner in life. After her performance, Aila is surprised by the visit of her mother from Zamboanga. They have not seen each other for so long so when they met, it was like a breath of fresh air.
Judge Billy Crawford says that Aila’s voice is different. She can sing all her notes really well, whether high or low. He also said that Aila is very humble.
John Mark Saga sings “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. When John Mark began uploading his videos on Sound Cloud and in YouTube, he would refuse to show his face. This is because he was fearful of what other people will say about him. Today, with the support of his mother, he is now fearless. He sings the Bohemian Rhapsody as a declaration that he no longer is afraid of anything. He is, instead, in the fight for his family and to fulfill his dreams. Tears fell when he watched a video that was sent by his father. He also read his letter over the air. His tears of joy shows how much he is encouraged by his father’s well wishes.
Judge Erik Santos commends John Mark’s performance. He said that takes mastery and a powerful voice to perform the song, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” John Mark possesses both.
