Yesterday, Mariah Carey Cañas was hailed as new defending champion beating two other contenders. Click here to read a recap of yesterday’s episode. Will Mariah Carey be the newest addition to TNT’s semi-finalist? Tawag Ng Tanghalan August 3 Performance, daily winner, and champion First contender, Alyssa Tacleon. Like mother like daughter. Alyssa from Pasig has been joining singing contests since she was grade 3. Thanks to her mom she’s able to improve on her singing. Alyssa only dreams of one thing. To help her family and give them a better life. She hopes joining TNT singing “Human” by Christina Perri would be her stepping stone to do just that. Alyssa did have a good voice but did it please Head judge Rey Valera? Unfortunately, it wasn’t. Judge Rey said the key was too low and which was too bad because he did like Alyssa’s voice. Towards the middle, she wasn’t able to hit the right notes. Judge Jaya agreed with Rey saying she did have a good voice but didn’t quite perform well today. Unfortunately, Rey had to signal for the gong. Alyssa is automatically disqualified from the show. Second contender, Lowell Dolendo. Lowell is originally from Negros Occidental but has been living in Bacolod for a year now. He works as a call center agent and supports his wife and kid as well as his mom and other siblings. He had to work twice as hard since his dad had to undergo a needed surgery. They haven’t had electricity for two months now since they weren’t able to pay. Vice offered to help him pay for his electricity. This breadwinner now answers the call of Tanghalan singing Brian McKnight’s “Back At One” and hopes this could be another way for him to give his family a better future. Head judge Rey told Lowell that he was about to signal for the gong. But because he had that fighting spirit in him, he was able to redeem himself a bit. Third contender, Sharon Rosales. This singer from Zamboanga City is a band vocalist. She and her bandmate, the band’s guitarist, have 2 kids together. An addition to their family are kids from the first partner of her husband. They both would do anything for their family and their dream is to have their own house. Sharon joins TNT singing “All I Wanna Do Is To Make Love With You” by Heart. Sharon belted out that natural raspy rocker voice which the judges seem to enjoy. On a side note, she and her husband did a duet. He played the guitar while Sharon sang to the tune of “Tao” by Noel Cabangon. Judge Jed Madela loved how unique Sharon’s voice was. It’s something that has grit and passion. In total, he loved her performance. Judge Mitoy called her a veteran and a true rock singer. Tawag ng Tanghalan August 3 daily winner, face-off, champion.
