Tawag Ng Tanghalan August 8 performances, Awit sa Pamilya
First semi-finalist, Lalainne Arana. Lalainne’s family sacrifice to get by every day. She had to stop school to help out and earn for the family. She and her mom left South Cotabato for Manila hoping that being in the city would give them a better life. It did give Lalainne the opportunity to be on the TNT stage. She sang “Iingatan Ka” by Carol Banawa was her song for today, a song she dedicates to her mom and family. For her, no material thing can substitute she and her family have for each other.
Judge Kayla said Lalainne was really a power vocalist and it always works to her advantage. However, she didn’t communicate the feeling so much not until she reached the climax of the song. Feeling and passion is important since it helps relay the story of the song.
Second semi-finalist, Jovany Satera. Jovany considers this his third life. He remembers that when he was 9, he and his dad had to cross four rivers riding a horse to go to school. He almost drowned in the river one time but his dad was there to his rescue. Jovany also almost lost his life when he encountered a horse who kicked and threw him far off while harvesting some bananas. His third near death experience was when he got into an accident with his friends riding a motorbike. He remembers that through each of those times, his family was always there for him. Jovay sang “Beautiful in My Eyes” for his family.
Judge Yeng said she felt the kilig factor when Jovany was singing. She called him a good singer and a good story teller both his biggest asset.
Third semi-finalist, John Mark Saga. John sang “Because You Love Me” by Celine Dion. For him, he owes his talent to his father and the confidence and perseverance to his mom. If not for them, he wouldn’t be on the TNT stage let alone be where he is in life now. He hopes to win this competition as a way to give back to his parents and family. The line “I’m everything I am because you love me” seem to really be true as he sang those words and broke into tears the moment he ended his performance.
A standing ovation from the judges just like yesterday. Head judge Rey Valera said technically John was a really good singer and stressed “really” many times for emphasis.
Fourth contender, Alfred Relatado. Whatever trial comes in the way of Alfred’s family, he is sure that they could and will overcome because they do it together. There came a time when Alfred had skin asthma and this hindered him from working as a fisherman. This meant he won’t be able to provide for his family. They decided to work together and pull up all resources they have for Alfred’s treatment. In no time, he got better. “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” with a touch of reggae was Alfred’s song for today.
Judge Karylle loved how Alfred pushed the limits with his performance just like other semi-finalists. She especially loved his voice and diction in his performance.
Fifth contender, Aila Santos. “Without You” by Mariah Carey was Aila’s song for today’s performance. Music and love for family is what makes Aila’s life beautiful. Aila is living with their guitarist and now have two kids together. They both had to leave their kids at one point to work in Korea. They’re making up for lost time now and dream of putting up a business for them. Aila hopes joining TNT will be a way for them to do it. Every word she sings today is motivated by that dream and her love for her family. Aila’s signature high notes are always one to look forward to and today was just one of those days.
“Technically excellent,” says Judge Louie and said Aila didn’t need to prove anything to them or to the audience. It was already a fact that she was a very good singer and performer. Louie just advised her to be herself.
Voting lines are open for all who want to show support for the semi-finalist of their choice until 6 p.m. tonight. Third round of performances will be on tomorrow’s episode.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs Mondays to Saturdays on It’s Showtime via ABS-CBN at noon.
