POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG RECAP: On Saturday, Oligie Alcasid was a guest judge for Tawag Ng Tanghalan sa Showtime. Contender from Metro Manila, Nestor Mateo won as daily winner and became the new defending chamption with an average score of 90.6 percent. Nestor battles new contenders today, will he make it? Or Will he be a one-day champion on the show?
Tawag Ng Tanghalan December 12 Performances
Elvira Alejandro from Cavite was the first contender on stage. Elvira is 61 years old and is married with four children. They have eleven grandchildren and they hope to give them a better future by winning Tawag Ng Tanghalan. Elvira chose the song “Alone” by Celine Dion to try to impress the judges.
Hurado K Brosas said she was impressed that at Elvira’s age, she was able to give an effortless performance with a consistent vibrato to her voice. Hurado Billy said he was impressed how Elvira was able to hit the high notes with ease.
Next on stage was Romeo Bocalso. Romeo is a ‘dad of all trades.’ Aside from being a father to six children, he is also a business man, singer and a judge for some singing competitions as well. He hopes to win the competition and give his family a Merry Christmas. Romeo sang “Only You” by The Platters.
Hurado Rey Valera just commented on his diction and pronunciation. He was also waiting for Romeo to give a little bit of his ‘flirty’ to touch to the song since it is the trademark of this song. However, Hurado Rey said Romeo was on point with his notes.
Last contender on stage was 22-year-old Jessabelle Camero. Jessabelle is a MAPEH teacher. She had a difficult childhood because of financial reasons. Jessabelle says she doesn’t even have a picture with her family and only knew that she had a brother lately. Her brother grew up with her other relatives.
Hurado Kyla said she was able to portray the emotion of the song. She just said Jessabelle had to work on her low range. Kyla added her voice didn’t match the intensity of the band, since her voice was a bit more for the acoustic arrangement. Hurado Yeng said her performance lacked a bit more power.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan December 12 Champion, Monday Daily Winner
Among the three contenders, Elvira Alejandro won as Monday daily winner with an average score of 91 percent. For the one-on-one battle, Elvira sang “Never, Never, Never” by Shirley Bassey. Nestor Mateo, a fellow senior citizen, battled Elvira with the song “When A Man Loves A Woman.” Who wins this battle?
Nestor Mateo won over daily winner Elvira garnering an average score of 94.8 percent.
