POPCORN TIME LIVE BLOG RECAP: Yesterday, Almae ended her journey as Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s defending champion after just a day and gave the ‘golden mikropono’ to the new defending champion, Arah Mae Robosa. Who will win today’s battle? With Olgie Alcasid as a guest judge on the show, contenders have to give their best performance and try to impress all ‘hurados’ today.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan December 16 Performances
First contender was ‘big-bro with a big dream’ Jek De Castro from Mandaluyong. This 28-year-old singer is the bread winner of his family. Jek sings at bars and events and also loves cooking. Jek wasn’t able to finish his studies and had to work to support his family and put his younger brother to school. Jek sang “If ever your in my Arms Again.”
Hurado Karylle was surprised by his performance because he didn’t give his all during the first part of his performance but towards the middle Jek was able to showcase his high notes and riffs. Hurado Nyoy loved the quality of his voice and was impressed as well.
Next contender was 49-year-old grandpa, Erwin Tarongoy from Cebu. Erwin is a singer by heart and he performed here and abroad. He mentioned that he once was in an audition with Marco Sison and Regine Velasquez. His career changed when he had Joanne, his daughter. Soon after his grandchild, Noah. Erwin sang “One In a Million You” hoping to make an impression on the judges.
Hurado Rey Valera referred to Erwin as ‘beterano’ and said he liked his performance. Rey added he made the job of the hurados easy because Erwin knows what competitions like this are all about.
Last challenger of the day was band vocalist Ildefonso Estralla. Ildefonso is a police officer, he has 4 kids, one of them, Zendy, is a singer as well and has become an internet sensation for her videos on YouTube. His dream is to do a duet with his daughter. They haven’t seen each other for awhile since Idelfonso is based in General Santos and his daughter lives in Manila. Ildefonso sang “Bed of Roses” which showcased his rocker voice for the judges.
Hurado Mitoy noticed that he was very comfortable and confident. He also referred to him as ‘beterano’ just like Erwin from Visayas. Hurado Ogie said he liked Ildefonso’s song choice and he loved the natural raspiness of his voice.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan December 16 Champion, Friday Daily Winner
Garnering an average score of 92.8 percent, Friday kampeon is Jek de Castro. To battle defending champion Arah Mae Robosa, Jek sang Bruno Mars’ hit, “When I was your Man” hitting those high notes pretty well. Arah Mae chose the song “Tunay Na Mahal” by Lani Misalucha hoping to keep her title. It was Jek de Castro vs defending champion Arah Mae Robosa. Who won today’s battle?
And the winner is– new kampeon, Jek de Castro with an average score of 93.6 percent.
Tawag Ng Tanghalan airs on It’s Showtime Monday to Saturday at noon on ABS-CBN.
